Health travelers appreciate healing in thermal waters
Bursa becomes the center of thermal tourism

Representatives of various sectoral companies
from different countries have gathered with
companies from Bursa at Bursa International
Textile and Trade Center (BUTTIM) as part of
Commercial Safari Project of Bursa Chamber
of Commerce and Industry. Representatives of
foreign companies visited BUTTIM and participated
in buyer delegation organization at Merinos
Cultural Center, Bursa as part of BTSO’s
realized textile oriented Development of International
Competitiveness (UR-GE) project. 100
participant companies were welcomed by Mr.
İsmail Kuş; Deputy Chairman of the Board of
Directors of BTSO, Mr. Ali Tiryaki; Chairman
of the Board of Directors of BUTTİM and
members of the Assembly. The gathering started
off with a briefing about the center which has
been the main location for Bursa’s textile since
1996 with almost 700 establishments. The dele-
gation continued to visit the companies and had
commercial meetings. Mr. İsmail Kuş; Deputy
Chairman of the Board of Directors of BTSO
stated that the chamber continues works which
provide added value to Bursa’s success in export
and they will continue to increase Bursa’s power
in textile sector. “We have gathered 226 foreign
company representatives from 20 countries with
representatives of textile sector in Bursa, following
the organization at Merinos Congress Cultural
Center the delegation proceeded to gather
with our companies at BUTTIM. I believe
activities as such, will have significant contribution
to our export volume.” According to Mr.
Kuş’s statement, there has been more than 1200
job interviews took place at Merinos KKM. The
537 of the interviews resulted with order. “The
occurred results have shown how the conducted
works have significant importance. As BTSO,
we will continue without break, focusing on our
business world oriented international organizations.”
Mr. Ali Tiryaki, Chairman of the Board
of Directors of BUTTİM expressed that BUTT-
IM is one of the most important trade center for
textile sector and that the organizations held in
collaboration with BTSO has significant contribution
to Bursa’s exporter identity and textile
sector. “BUTTIM gathers hundreds of brands
under the same roof for more than 20 years. I
would like to take opportunity to thank BTSO
for their foreign buyer delegation programs as
the programs brought vitality to both our sector
and center.” he added.
Bursa is a rich province in terms of
mineral and thermal springs and
spas. European Historical Thermal
Town Association, focusing
on valorization of thermal cultural
heritage in Europe and on revitalization
of the historical tradition of
European thermal cities and spa
towns’ heritage, selected Bursa
as one of the prominent thermal
centers of the world in 2013.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality
was planning to establish a
brand-new and integrated thermal
facilities located in İpekiş and
Tabakhaneler district of Bursa, by
cooperating with Turkish Ministry
of Environment and Urbanization,
Yıldız Technical University
and Piri Reis Map and Real Estate
Association.
Actually, promotion of European
spa culture brings with it three
different concepts: welfare, health,
tradition. Bursa, with its rich and
vast cultural heritage, combines
welfare, health and tradition for
centuries. Bursa hosts a geothermal
area that boasts a number
of hot springs. The province is a
place to come if you want a traditional
experience because Turkish
baths are known throughout the
world. Traditional bathhouses
with charming tile designs and
arching ceilings can be found all
around the central Çekirge district
of Bursa. The various minerals
in the waters are known to have
healing properties. It should be
noted that water is also transferred
to a number of area hotels,
which operate their own mineral
pools for guests.
It is a well known fact that people
discovered the therapeutic powers
of Bursa’s thermal springs centuries
ago. With one of the best
climates in the world, Bursa has
turned to be one of the the ideal
psychological and physical health
center for well-being. Centuries
ago, Bursa was at the heart of the
silk and spice trade and in modern
times, is now a center for thermal
tourism, which refers to the use
of spas and thermal waters for
relaxation, wellness, and healing
everything from skin conditions
to rheumatism, and osteoporosis,
among others.
Bursa specializes in medical spas,
including physical therapy. Health
travelers really appreciate healing
in its thermal waters. Bursa is
renowned for its areas of nature
tourism, culture, history tourism
as well as thermal and medical
tourism. Average duration of
overnight stays and total number
of arrival in facilities has increased
by 79% in the last 4 years.
Turkish astronauts to be trained at
As part of The Gokmen Project of
Bursa Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (BTSO) has laid the
foundation for Europe’s finest and
one of the top five Aerospace center “Gokmen
Aerospace Training Center” (GUHEM) with
a ceremony attended by Mr. Fikri Işık; Deputy
Prime Minister. GUHEM, which is designed
with an intriguing architecture on to the 13,000
square meters field in total, will be Turkey’s
first training center.
BTSO, which has been carrying our projects to
make Bursa have also a voice in the fields of
aerospace and defense has pioneered yet another
innovation under the scope of Gokmen
Project. BTSO gathers the companies under
the same roof that operates in the sector with
clustering and Ur-Ge projects in line with the
work of the Aerospace and Defense has laid
the foundation to another exemplary project.
The foundation of Gokmen Aerospace Training
Center which had been designed with the
support of TUBITAK and cooperation with
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has been laid
with the participation of Mr. Fikri Işık; Deputy
Prime Minister and Bursa protocol.

“GUHEM”
Mr. Fikri Işık stated that Bursa is a city that
excites him at all times and whenever he pays
a visit to Bursa they either lay a foundation
or make the grand opening of a new project.
Mr. Işık congratulated BTSO for GOKMEN
and GUHEM projects. With the reminder of
War Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s famous
saying of “The future is in the skies” and he
added; “GUHEM will be a significant contribution
for Turkey’s aerospace breakthrough.”
“GOKMEN PROJECT EXCITES ME”
Mr. Fikri Işık draw attention to the fact that,
science is based on wonder and inquisition. He
also added that societies that do not receive
sufficient level of mathematics, science, technology
and engineering education are incapable
of producing science. Mr. Işık pointed out
to the fact that institutions such as GUHEM
are important in order to arouse interest to
aerospace. “Considering the 20 years from
now, I can already state from this day that Bursa
is the best city for aerospace. GUHEM plays
an essential role at this point. BTSO’s Gokmen
Project continues to excite me since day one.
Once the institution is complete, the children
will have more interest in aerospace.”
ABOUT 200 MILLION LIRAS OF INVESTMENT
Mr. İbrahim Burkay; President of the Board of
Directors of BTSO emphasized that Bursa is
the center of automotive, textile and machinery
sectors and it is open for development in
high technology sectors such as aerospace and
defense. He also stated that BTSO’s future
goal is to make Bursa significant center in
Gokmen and aerospace and defense fields.
“Bursa took a different role in Turkey’s goals
and it is attaining an infrastructure for training
Turkey’s first astronaut.”
IT IS AIMED TO BE COMPLETED
IN A YEAR
Mr. Burkay stated that they aim to
open GUHEM for business within a
year. “Every foundation of a project
harbors a dream. We have dreamt both
for our city and country. GUHEM will
be an education center for the young
generation. We desire to educate the
new generation in the field of aerospace
and defense with the many activities we
realize.”
Mr. Burkay said that they have launched
mobilization in the aerospace and
defense field with the vision of Turkey’s
first Gokmen to be gained from Bursa.
“We believe that our city will become
the center of aerospace and defense in
the near future.
BURSA WILL MOVE TURKEY TO ITS
TARGET”
Mr. İzzettin Küçük; Governor of
Bursa, mentioned that Turkey has 500
billion-dollar export target. “Bursa is
one of the closest cities to this target in
Turkey. Bursa is strategically important
for the targets of Turkey thanks to its
25-billion-dollar trade volume and production
potential. We have to produce
more in order to achieve these goals. We
will attain important targets in production
and export thanks to the projects
that BTSO has carried out. Also this
centre will contribute greatly to our city
and region. I would like to thank Bursa
Chamber of Commerce and Industry to
enrich our city economy.”
“BURSA IS PROMOTED TO
THE WORLD LEVEL”
Mr. Recep Altepe; Mayor of Bursa
Metropolitan Municipality, mentioned
that GUHEM is the first and sole centre
of Turkey in its field, said: “I would like
to send my best wishes for the centre to
be beneficial to Bursa and our region.
We must provide our younger generation
with trainings for high value-added
production. In this sense, location of
the Gökmen Aerospace and Training
Centre is crucial.
This center is to be established together
by us and Bursa Chamber of Commerce
and Industry will be the first in Turkey.
Bursa will be promoted to the global
level through this center. Our children
and youths will learn everything about
aerospace.”
“VISION PROJECTS WILL CONTINUE”
Mr. Remzi Topuk, President of the
Assembly and Presiding Board of BTSO
gave warm wishes for Gökmen Aerospace
Training Centre to be beneficial
both to Bursa and Turkey. Mr. Topuk
mentioned that BTSO, which has a
deep-rooted history of 128 years, has
initiated projects that add value to the
city, said “We will continue working on
our projects so as to carry them into
effect and create vision for our city and
country.”
Mr. Mehmet Şahin Gök; Vice President
of TUBITAK said that they are an institution
that supports technology and they
will continue to support the people who
occupies with science in care of university
or private sector. After speeches, Mr.
Fikri Işık; Deputy Prime Minister, Mr.
İbrahim Burkay; President of the Board
of BTSO and members of the protocol
have pressed the button all together as a
symbol of laying the foundation of Gökmen
Aerospace and Training Centre
that is the first space-themed centre in
Turkey.
IT IS ONE OF THE FIRST FIVE CENTRES
IN THE WORLD
The center to be established on approximately
13.000 square meters’
indoor area will have mechanism and
exhibitions with the purpose of education
for space and aerospace. Gökmen
Space and Aerospace and Education
Centre which is put into practice so as
to increase awareness of space and aerospace
for young people in primary and
secondary schools will have different
practices such as more than 150 interactive
installations, aerospace learning
centres, space innovation centres
and vertical wind tunnels. This centre
will be established with a remarkable
architecture with the aim of being best
space and aerospace-themed centre of
Europe and one of the first five centres
in the world. Mechanisms that illuminate
the evolution of aerospace and
flight simulators used in our days on the
first floor of Gökmen Space Aerospace
and Education Centre. Information
about atmospheric events, solar system,
planets and galaxies will be presented on
the second floor called “Space Floor”.
Visitors will be able to experience the
gravity free environment through the
gravity free area located on this floor of
the center.
