Bursa Metropolitan Municipality organizes seminars
on Alzheimer’s Disease for the people of the region by
cooperating with Turkey Alzheimer Association Bursa Branch
The sycamore tree which gave its name
to the Oyukcinar Neighborhood at the
North of Bursa was Turkey’s largest tree
with its 18.2 meters body width.
Social Services Directorate of Bursa Metropolitan
Municipality cooperates with Turkey
Alzheimer Association Bursa Branch
in order to inform the citizens of the region
on Alzheimer’s Disease. Professor Bilgen
Taneli, delivering a series of seminars in
Bursa and its towns such as Büyükorhan,
Harmancık, Kestel, İznik, Orhangazi, Keles
and Orhaneli, Gürsu, Yenişehir, Karacabey
and Gemlik, informs the people on the
disease.
Meanwhile, citizens are also informed
about Alzheimer and the “Love Chip” application
of the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.
Citizens living with Alzheimer and
mental disturbances can connect with their
relatives easily and safely thanks to the
Love Chip. As known, Alzheimer’s Disease
is a chronic and progressive condition
characterized by the decline of cognitive
functions such as reasoning, remembering
and planning. It affects people in different
ways; no two individuals will experience
exactly the same progression of the disease.
A person’s personality, health and social
situation are all important factors that
influence the impact of dementia.
According to Professor Bilgen Taneli, Some
activities such as sorting, pairing, matching
and puzzles should be offered once and
then repeated twice during the week. Despite
having poor recollection, people living
with Alzheimer’s can still learn through
practice and repetition. Most activities
that require movement: grasping, pressing,
pushing, gripping, extending, scooping and
reaching are helpful in improving hand-eye
coordination. These types of activities also
provide sensory stimulation and promote
well-being. If utensils or tools are to be
used, make sure they are adapted to the
needs of individuals.
Zindan
Kapı
Archaeological excavations that have been carried
out in the northwestern province of Bursa
have discovered 2,300 year-old dungeons used
for execution and torturing during the Bithynia
Kingdom era. Archaeologists discovered that
the dungeons, which contain a “bloody well,”
“torture chamber” and “corridors connected
to tower,” used horrific execution methods.
Uludağ University Faculty of Science and
Literature History of Art Department member
İbrahim Yılmaz, who was on the excavation
team, said within the scope of the project to
reveal Bursa city walls, implemented by the
Bursa Municipality, the restoration of centuries-old
walls were continuing.
Yılmaz said a large part of the 3,400-meter-long
walls had been revealed and the locations
of “Taht-ı Kale,” “Yer Kapı,” “Saltanat
Kapısı,” “Kaplıca Kapı” and “Zindan Kapı,”
which are around the city walls and provide entrance
to the walls, had also been determined.
Restoration in the Zindan Kapı in Alacahırka
neighborhood, which is located in the last part
of the walls, discovered dungeons, Yılmaz said.
“Over these dungeons were houses were people
were living. Considering that there were
dungeons or dungeon remains might be there,
we expropriated these buildings. After the
houses were demolished, scientific excavations
revealed remains of Bursa dungeons,” he said.
Halkali (ringed) and Dudakli (labiates)
Sycamore along with the Kiremitci Sycamore
that the storks nest in every year
are all Bursa Sycamores that are in the
same age as the Ottoman Empire.
At Cekirge, in the Inkaya village located
across the Uludag road, a 598-year-old
sycamore with the same name is very well
known around the world. The sycamore
that received its name from the Inkaya
Village which is one of the first villages
of the Ottoman Empire located across
the Uludag road has 13 main branches.
The height of the ‘’Inkaya Sycamore’’ is
35 meters. It’s one of the oldest trees in
Turkey with the thickness its branches at
