TRI COUNTYBOYS
On the heels of a 9-14 season, the
Tri County boy’s basketball team
will have a different look to it this
year, as only four letterwinners
return to the court for the 2017-18
campaign.
But for head coach Cory Jensen
and the Trojans, a new season
brings an opportunity to impress
in Class D-1.
Among those returning for Tri
County is senior point guard Riley
Knust, who averaged 12.5 points
and 3.5 assists per game as a
junior.
He will be joined by junior
forward Creighton Niemeyer, who
posted an impressive 13.5 points
and 5 rebounds a contest last year.
Junior forward Evan Larson and
freshman Cole Siems are also
expected to be impact players for
the Trojans this season.
“After a successful summer, a key
for us will be to continue to work
to get better every single day,”
Jensen said. “And like a lot of
D-1 teams, we will need to avoid
injuries.”
Tri County will open the season
on Nov. 30 on the road against
Wilber-Clatonia.

After winning six of their final
eight games during the 2016-17
campaign, the Tri County girl’s
basketball squad will look to
keep its momentum going into a
brand new season.
The Trojans finished 11-13
last year under head coach
Bryce Simpson, and with
seven returning letterwinners
expected back, the group will
look to make a dent in Class
D-1.
“For us it always starts with
improving and hopefully
getting to a point where we are
playing our best basketball by
the end of the season,” Simpson
said.
Simpson will look to four
seniors to be leaders this year,
as Celena Chavez, Shayna
Lijewski, Shae Wattjes, and
Kailey Weichel all return for
the Trojans.
Juniors Madison Freese,
Shaylee Niemeyer, and Brianna
Connelly, as well as sophomore
Hannah Strein, will also make
an impact this season.
“We will be looking to fill some
holes left by four seniors, but I
like our athleticism,” Simpson
added. “We need to use this
to become more efficient
offensively, while at the same
time making it difficult for our
opponents offensively.”
