LINCOLN SOUTHWESTBOYS
While the 2016-17 season didn’t
produce the amount of success
head coach Alex Bahe had hoped
for, the Lincoln Southwest boy’s
basketball squad is poised for a
bounce back campaign.
Bahe will enter his second year at
the helm of the program, and will
have eight returning letterwinners,
as the Silver Hawks look to do
some damage in Class A.
Returning to the court will be
senior guard JaQuaylon Mays,
who earned second team all-city
honors as a junior.
Joining him will be junior guard
Cam Frederick, who also turned
heads during his sophomore
campaign.
“Both are combo guards that are
capable of filling a stat sheet and
operate best in open space in
transition,” Bahe said.
Complimenting Mays and
Frederick will be senior guard
Collin Kohl, who Bahe said, “will
move into a starting role this
season after (he) provided scoring
off the bench a season ago.”
“After one season in a new
system, this group looks to take
another step forward and become
even more competitive,” Bahe
added. “This group will play hard
and function best in transition and
when sharing the ball. Without
a traditional post player on the
roster, this group will need to
commit to defensive improvement
and focus on collective defensive
rebounding every night out.”

The offseason for the Lincoln
Southwest girl’s basketball squad
has been an enjoyable one, as the
Silver Hawks spent the summer
as Class A state champions.
However, the impressive 2016-17
season is in the past, and a brand
new campaign is about to begin.
Under head coach Jeff Rump,
the Silver Hawks return eight
letterwinners from the state
championship squad, as Lincoln
Southwest will look to repeat
their dominance starting in late
November.
“A big key will be how we
handle being the defending
state champions,” Rump said.
“Replacing our senior leadership
from last season and how we
handle a tougher schedule (will
also be important).”
Rump will rely heavily on junior
post player Jaden Ferguson, who
averaged an impressive 13.7
points and 2.5 rebounds a game
during her sophomore year.
Junior Hannah Kelle, who posted
10 points a contest last season,
and Raegan Wells will also be key
contributors for the Silver Hawks.
“We return seven of our top nine
from last year and add superstar
transfer Jayten Coleman,”
Rump added. “Developing team
chemistry will be key.”
Lincoln Southwest will open
the season on Nov. 30 against
Millard North.
