GIBBONBOYS
Despite coming off an 8-15
campaign, the Gibbon boy’s
basketball squad is set up for a
bounce back season in 2017-18.
The Buffaloes return a plethora
of experience under head coach
David Benge, as 10 letterwinners
and four starters will be back on
the hardwood.
Leading Gibbon will be senior
guard Collin Niemack, who
averaged 9 points per game as a
junior.
Also looking to turn some heads
will be senior guard Collin
Dorzynski, who posted 4 points a
contest last year, as well as junior
Izaiah Gomez.
Senior Chase Middleswart
and sophomores Chi Onate
and Nathan Holcomb will also
see significant minutes for the
Buffaloes this season.
In addition, newcomers Alex
Lopez, Logan Middleswart,
and Ben Wiley could be impact
players, as well.
“We are going to return some
experience but have major holes
to fill in all aspects of the team,”
Benge said. “It will be fun seeing
who steps up into these roles
this year. Young players will
have much more of a chance to
contribute.”
The season will tip off for
Gibbon on Nov. 30 against St.
Paul.

Coming off a difficult season in
which the Buffaloes went 6-16,
there is plenty to be optimistic
about for the Gibbon girl’s
basketball squad in 2017-18.
Under head coach Jim
Martenson, Gibbon will return its
entire roster, as 12 letterwinners
and seven seniors are expected
back on the court.
Leading that group will be
senior guard Ellie Snell, who
was named second team allconference
during the 2016-17
season.
She will be complimented on the
court by senior forward Parker
Kenton, as well as senior guard
Miranda Smith, who earned allconference
honorable mention
honors last season.
Senior Sydni Kroll and
sophomore Baylee Rockefeller
also bring starting experience to
the Gibbon roster.
“We are looking for the
opportunity to have an improved
season with a nucleus returning
from last year,” Martenson said.
“We play in a tough conference
(LouPlatte) and also have a very
solid non-conference schedule
that will force us to work and
play the game to the best of our
ability each and every day. We
will strive to be better at the
end of the season by working to
improve every day.”
The season will get underway for
the Buffaloes on Nov. 30 against
St. Paul.
