ARCADIA-LOUP CITYBOYS
The good news for the Arcadia-
Loup City boys basketball
squad is they are coming off an
impressive 16-8 campaign.
The better news, however, is
experience will be abundant in
2017-18, as 11 letterwinners
are expected to return to the
hardwood this season.
The Rebels are led by head coach
Aaron Habe, and will look to
build off a successful season that
ended with a tight sub-district
loss to Amherst.
Forward Nolan Baker will look
to lead the senior-heavy roster,
after posting 14 points and six
rebounds a game last season.
Senior guard Tige Calleroz, who
averaged 8 rebounds and 5 steals
last year, and senior Macrae
Maschka will also be impact
players for the Rebels.
“Rebounding and consistent
shooting will be two of the
biggest factors,” Habe said. “We
believe as a team if we take care
of those two things then we can
definitely attain our goals for this
upcoming season.”
ARCADIA-LOUP CITYGIRLS
PERKINS COUNTYBOYS
The Arcadia-Loup City girl’s
basketball squad is coming off a
decent 2016-17 season, finishing
the campaign 11-10.
Trevor Wright will take over as
head coach for the Rebels during
the 2017-18 season.
While only five letterwinners are
expected to return for Arcadia-
Loup City, three starters will be
back on the roster, providing much
needed experience for the Rebels.
One of those returning starters
will be senior point guard
Kennedy Lewandowski, who
Wright calls “one of the biggest
strengths of the team”.
Joining Lewandowski on the
court will be senior forward
Kaylea Rasmussen, who posted
8.1 points per game as a junior.
Senior Kinley Krzycki will
also be a player to watch at the
guard position, as will forward
Mackenzie Dahlberg.
“I think we have a lot to offer
with our size and our perimeter
players. Our post players have
great size and ability to play
with other good posts,” Wright
said. “Our perimeter players are
learning how to play faster and
under control. I think we have
a lot to work on as individual
players, mostly just the repetition
of basic fundamentals. We have
some good experience coming
back but there are some young
girls that will have to step up
and play key varsity minutes this
year.”
The biggest advantage the
Perkins County boy’s basketball
squad possesses heading into the
2017-18 season is experience,
both on the court and on the
sidelines.
The Plainsmen return nine
letterwinners to the hardwood
following a 14-11 campaign, and
long-tenured head coach Shawn
Cole will once again be at the
helm.
Cole has coached over 200
games for Perkins County.
The group will be led by four
seniors, including guard Josh
Johnston, who posted 12 points
and 4 rebounds a game last year.
Big man Charles Johnson will
also return after averaging 11
points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals a
contest in 2016-17.
Fellow seniors Michael Beck
and Tyson Patrick, in addition to
junior guard Spencer Ross, will
also carve out a significant role
for the Plainsmen.
When asked what the keys to
success for the upcoming season
are, Cole was straightforward.
“Getting through football without
major injury, competing in
practice to prepare for games,
(and the) kids’ drive to win
games,” he said.
