The Giltner boy’s basketball
squad has a lot working for it as
it heads into the 2017-18 season
under first year head coach Jordan
Ortmeier.
The Hornets are coming off an
18-7 campaign, and have 10
returning letterwinners on a
senior-heavy roster.
The group will be led by senior
guard Josh Hinrichs, who
averaged an impressive 15.3
points and 4.5 rebounds a contest
last year.
Alex Goracke, a senior forward
who averaged 9.5 points and 4.4
rebounds a game last season, will
also carry some of the load for the
Hornets.
Forward Brodi Hansen will look
to build on a successful 2016-
17 season, as well. The senior
averaged 7.3 points and 4.7
rebounds.
“With a roster full of seniors,
leadership will be huge for us,”
Ortmeier said. “We have plenty of
experience with everyone coming
back from last year. Learning to
be road warriors with a difficult
road schedule (will also be key).”
Giltner will open the season on
Nov. 30 against Harvard.

Coming off an 8-13 season,
the Giltner girl’s basketball
squad will look to bounce
back in a big way, and are in
a position to do so with nine
letterwinners expected back on
the roster.
Under tenured head coach
Nancy Lockmon, who owns a
167-105 record at the helm of
the program, the Hornets will
welcome back four seniors.
Senior guards Reagan Janzen and
Jordan Hansen are two athletes
to watch once the season gets
underway, as is senior forward
Alexa Preissler.
Forward Reagan Smith rounds
out a talented senior class for
Giltner.
Some younger athletes will
have to fill some big roles for
the Hornets to be successful,
as juniors Chloe Craig, Brooke
Good, and Aubrey Leichty will
look to take their game to the
next level.
Sophomores Sydney Janzen and
Cassidy Tompkin will also be
battling for playing time come
late November.
When asked what the keys are
to a successful season, Lockmon
didn’t mince words.
“Being able to put the ball in
the basket and playing solid
defense,” she said.
The season opens up for Giltner
on Nov. 30 against Harvard.
