awards at Leicester in October. Simon is

employer Amberstone. If his surname
rings a bell it’s because he’s the younger
half of a still quite rare case of son

his father is Dr Peter Speight, the risk

Professional.
Detective president
Conflict International CEO Mike LaCorte
has been elected as the President of the
World Association of Detectives at their
92nd annual conference in New Delhi,
India. He’s also a member of the
Association of British Investigators. His
firm recently opened an office in New
York and has representatives in Marbella,
Cyprus and Hong Kong.

Association). It launched officially last
month at the Border Management &
Technologies Summit Asia in Kuala
Lumpur. He served as Gold Commander
for the London 2012 Games border
security programme.

Security has appointed Paul
Barnard as Security, Risk and
Mitigation Director. He will
be doing security risk
assessment and management
plus the design of client
contingency planning. In 27
years with the City of London
Police and was latterly detective chief
superintendent in the crime directorate and has led
on counter terrorism projects.

Advisory Panel, Phillip Hagon is chairing a free

Frazer-Nash Consultancy; and Paul Shanes of the

panel she warned that the threat of terrorism
came not only from attacks, but the effect on our
way of life; and that authoritarian measures’ fed

academic is course leader of the degree in risk
and security management, at the University of
Portsmouth. She’s doing research on crime data
sharing and multi-agency crisis management
exercises.
l Earlier in 2017, the ASC Imbert Award lunch
saw association patron Sir Hugh Orde present the
dissertation prize to Major Paul Ramsey
(Cranfield University). ASC director Warren
Collins was given the consultancy prize; and
former chairs Roy Sutherland and Allan Hildage
were made honorary life members.

by Jules B and Jeremy M Kroll, Simon Scales
has joined as Senior Managing Director; based in
London and reporting to Darren Matthews, head
of the Investigations and Disputes practice for
EMEA. He joins from BP where he was Head of
Investigations (EMEA).
