Like father like son<br />

product Risk Watch, Simon Speight was<br />

among the winners at the Retail Risk<br />

awards at Leicester in October. Simon is<br />

pictured (at the Lone Worker Safety expo<br />

in March) exhibiting the product for his<br />

employer Amberstone. If his surname<br />

rings a bell it’s because he’s the younger<br />

half of a still quite rare case of son<br />

following father into private security; for<br />

his father is Dr Peter Speight, the risk<br />

consultant and Chartered Security<br />

Detective president<br />

Conflict International CEO Mike LaCorte<br />

has been elected as the President of the<br />

World Association of Detectives at their<br />

92nd annual conference in New Delhi,<br />

India. He’s also a member of the<br />

Association of British Investigators. His<br />

firm recently opened an office in New<br />

York and has representatives in Marbella,<br />

Cyprus and Hong Kong.<br />

Security has appointed Paul<br />

Barnard as Security, Risk and<br />

Mitigation Director. He will<br />

be doing security risk<br />

assessment and management<br />

plus the design of client<br />

contingency planning. In 27<br />

years with the City of London<br />

Police and was latterly detective chief<br />

superintendent in the crime directorate and has led<br />

on counter terrorism projects.<br />

Counter fraud<br />

talk<br />

panel she warned that the threat of terrorism<br />

came not only from attacks, but the effect on our<br />

award to Professional Security: “It was just a<br />

great surprise and completely unexpected.” The<br />

academic is course leader of the degree in risk<br />

and security management, at the University of<br />

Portsmouth. She’s doing research on crime data<br />

sharing and multi-agency crisis management<br />

exercises.<br />

l Earlier in 2017, the ASC Imbert Award lunch<br />

saw association patron Sir Hugh Orde present the<br />

dissertation prize to Major Paul Ramsey<br />

(Cranfield University). ASC director Warren<br />

Collins was given the consultancy prize; and<br />

former chairs Roy Sutherland and Allan Hildage<br />

were made honorary life members.<br />

At K2 Intelligence, an investigative firm founded<br />

by Jules B and Jeremy M Kroll, Simon Scales<br />

has joined as Senior Managing Director; based in<br />

London and reporting to Darren Matthews, head<br />

of the Investigations and Disputes practice for<br />

EMEA. He joins from BP where he was Head of<br />

Investigations (EMEA).<br />
