Wireless Home
New from Johnson Controls is the
DSC iotega, a wireless security and
automation product aimed at homes
and small businesses.
As an encrypted security system, it
includes remote interactive smart
services. It can allow new revenue
streams for security installers, the product firm suggests. It provides
end-to-end 128-bit AES encrypted two-way sensors and includes
a built-in siren, two-way voice, 99 user codes and Transport Layer
Security. Features include a capacitive touch keypad plus an
optional seven-inch Wi-Fi enabled touchscreen, wireless arming
station and software app compatibility. Installation is by a stepby-step
portal. Configuration of devices, system diagnostics, and
upgrades can be handled remotely.
Radiation Detection
New from FLIR Systems is the FLIR
identiFINDER R440, the latest in its
identiFINDER R-Series handheld radiation
detection product line. The product can be
used in one hand, and offers identification
during survey missions and secondary
screening operations. Weighing less
than 1.5 kilograms, the radioisotope
identification device (RIID) comes with a
two-inch by two-inch sodium iodide (NaI)
detector. With 3.5 times more sensitivity
than similarly-sized RIIDs, it’s claimed,
responders can detect radiation from farther distances and behind
heavier shielding. Delivering according to the manufacturers ten per
cent better resolution than other products in the category, the product
thanks to its extended energy range detects gamma radiation and can
indicate the presence of neutrons found in special nuclear materials.
The device has built-in wireless communications and features a new
360-degree EasyFinder mode that pinpoints and instructs the operator
to the location of a radiation source.
Proximity Access
Videx has launched a
new off-line, stand-alone
proximity access control
system.
MiAccess is the firm says
for buildings with single or
multiple entrances such as
offices, residential homes and
small hotels, fitness centres and caravan parks. Steve Natton, Special
Projects Manager at Videx, said: “The beauty of MiAccess is that
it can be part of a multiple entrance (80 maximum) system without
the need to cable between devices.” A free software (PROA-MS for
access control and PROH-MS for hotels and guest houses) allows
you to configure the access levels and user rights, and to view reports.
Access rights of each user are stored on the Mifare cards. The system
can be managed from the PC programme, reducing the installation cost
and complications associated with routing cables around a building.
Multiple sites can be managed from the same PC, making this suitable
the firm says for engineers who maintain several sites. The system
also allows control of all access points from your PC using read-write
Mifare cards to transfer data to and from the readers when required; or,
data can be transferred using the USB port on each reader. An optional
exit push button with a built-in remote relay is also available.
Video Stitching
The new Video Management
System 8.0 (BVMS 8.0)
from Bosch offers stitching,
and 64-bit function (up from
32-bit in previous versions).
These all allow surveillance
operators to respond to incidents by monitoring a greater number of
video cameras at once. The BVMS 8.0 supports the latest ‘fusion’
dual-sensor optical-thermal cameras. The Bosch Video Stitcher
combines up to 16 high-resolution cameras into a single panoramic
view, allowing operators to monitor, for example, the stand in a
stadium or airfield in an airport, as a single camera. A user can still
zoom in and out as needed, but does not need to switch back and
forth from one camera to another. An operator does not need to
know which camera is tracking what specifics or where a camera
is, and how it is linked to the surveillance network. By using the
decoding capacities of the GPU, you can display multiple ultra-high
resolution (UHD) in parallel without consuming CPU power.
ANPR Integration
Hikvision UK & Ireland report
the integration of the Hikvision
automatic number plate recognition
(ANPR) system into the Paxton’s
Net2 access control system. As
the firms say, benefits to installers
can be passed onto their end-user
customers. Working as a standalone
product or part of a wider
Hikvision system this integration
allows legacy and new Hikvision ANPR systems to be operated from
the Net2 system helping to control a gate or barrier by associating a
car’s registration number with their access control credential such as
entry card or key fob over multiple formats which use the Wiegand
interface. This means the user does not have to leave the vehicle to
open the gate or barrier.
Door Terminal
New from Software House, part
of Johnson Controls, is its TST-100
Touchscreen Terminal.
The terminal works with legacy and
IP-based door controllers from Software
House. The TST-100 features a 4.3-inch
graphical LCD touchscreen that displays
icons and custom command menus,
providing feedback of the access control
operation, and lets guards and other
users arm and disarm intrusion zones and issue custom commands,
at the door. Built using the HID Global 5127 Mini multi-technology
read head, the terminal supports a range of smart card technologies,
including HID iCLASS SE and iCLASS Seos. It uses encrypted
RS485 for secure communications to an IP controller, making it
suitable the developers say for healthcare, campuses, airports and other
sites where network connectivity to a reader on the unsecure side is
not allowed. Rafael Schrijvers, Access Control Product Marketing
Manager, EMEA, Building Technologies and Solutions, Johnson
Controls, said: “The TST-100 Touchscreen Terminal hits several
targets of multi-functionality, advanced security and ultimate usability
all within a sleek, user-friendly touchscreen interface.” A command
menu lets end users issue custom key commands to the intrusion
system also.
