The tim e has come. You ca n 't put it off any longer; the phone calls m ust be made. You haven't<br />

spoken to your cousins in tw o m onths, your parents in six weeks, plus friends of the fam ily are here<br />

and if you w a n t th a t free meal you have to call them .<br />

The decision is made to dedicate the evening's activities to phone calls. Arm ed w ith phone<br />

num bers and at least tw e n ty asim onim you trudge to building five at nine o'clock. However, the line<br />

has tripled in size since th e last tim e you checked. Also, half of the phones a re n 't w orking and should<br />

your tw e n ty asim onim drop w ith in the firs t m inute the m achine isn 't w orking anyway, as usual. AGH I<br />

Should you stay or take the chance and go to Goldsm ith.<br />

Y ou're feeling daring — w h a t's the point of making phone calls the evening peulah if you don't take<br />

some chances ? O nw ard to Goldsm ith. Yet everyone seems to have the same idea. By now it's 9:15,<br />

G oldsm ith closes at 1 0 :0 0 ‏—־ w ill you make it?<br />

Finally you get the phone; your cousins a re n 't home and w hen you start a decent conversation w ith<br />

fa m ily friends the people in the line start to give you dirty looks fo r m onopolising the phone. A t least<br />

you get the free meal.<br />

A t 9:45, you em erge triu m p h a n t feeling quite accom plished but th e re 's still the call to your parents.<br />

Twelve o'clock arrives and dragging an u n w illin g friend you make the trek to the Hyatt.<br />

You slink past the reception desk in that obvious college sw eatshirt. Upon reaching the phones, it's<br />

a tense situation. Three people in line and tw o of the phones are broken. You're not in the mood — but<br />

w a it, w h a t about the phone dow nstairs.<br />

This is d e fin ite ly your night — no one is there only you and the bezek. Your asim on is safe in the<br />

aperture and your parents accent the charges.<br />

By one o'clock your pockets are stuffed w ith Hyatt bathroom tissues. You leave satisfied w ith the<br />

phone call adventure fo r yet another m onth. By the w ay did you know about the new phone in moadon<br />
