FROM
THE
EDITOR’S
DESK
Sometimes there are stories
that just make you sit and
marvel at the absolute
determination the human
spirit can muster.
We have one such story
today.
In June, cyclist and former
Christchurch Boys’ High
student Keagan Girdlestone
was nearly decapitated when,
during a race in Italy, he went
through the window of a support
vehicle.
His list of injuries is such that
those who witnessed the crash
could be forgiven for thinking
he was dead.
Keagan has returned to
Christchurch, incredibly after
learning how to walk again.
His aim a few months ago was
just to be able to cycle to his
neighbourhood cafe in Lincoln.
Now he is lining up Le Race
as the No 1 seed. This is not
only a nod to his incredible
recovery but also that he was
the youngest person to ever
win Le Race back when he was
16-years-old.
All the very best for the race
Keagan.
