In the annual Big Bargain Book
Sale, the library puts on sale
books and other items which are
no longer needed in the collection
but are still in good condition.
With more than 50,000 titles and
items available for sale, it will
include adult, young adult and
children’s material in a variety of
formats.

OUTDOOR SURF MOVIE
NIGHT
Always wanted to watch a great
surf movie with all your friends?
Well, now you can. First up will
be the family movie Surf’s Up for
children or the young at heart.
After a short intermission, the
cult surf classic, Big Wednesday,
will start at 8.10pm. Bring a
cushion, picnic rug or deck chair
and join the fun. Food trucks
and vendors will be on-site to
provide dinner. The winners of
the make your own surfing movie
competition will screen between
the two feature films.

GALA
At this event for families to enjoy,
there will be various stalls and
many items for sale. Buy a raffle
ticket and try your luck while
the children are having their
faces painted. There will also
be different foods highlighting
different cultures from a hangi

kapa haka performances and a
chance to try it out for yourself.

PAPANUI NEIGHBOURS DAY
Neighbours Day Aotearoa is a
national event to celebrate local
communities. The Papanui
Baptist Church and other
community organisations will
join together to hold a street
party. This will provide an
opportunity to meet other people
in the community and make
some friends while enjoying a day
out. There will be fun for kids,
delicious food and extraordinary
entertainment.

The Wainoni/Avonside
Community Services Trust will
host a mayoral MasterChef scone
bake-off to mark Neighbours
Day Aotearoa. Lining up to take
out the scone-baking honours
this year will be Mayor David
Ayers from Waimakariri. He’ll
be up against a line-up of deputy
mayors, including Hurunui’s
Marie Black, the city council’s
Andrew Turner and Malcolm
Lyall from Selwyn. There will also
be a sausage sizzle, bacon butties
and entertainment for the kids,
including cone Olympics, bumper
balls and soccer.

The aim of this gala is to celebrate
the community and get people
together. There will be events and
entertainment, including market

MEDIEVAL DAY
Hear ye, hear ye. The people of
Central Library Peterborough
invite one and all for an afternoon
of medieval entertainment. There
will be crown-decorating for
those of royal blood and shieldmaking
for any knights in need of
armour. Catapults will be created
and tested. If you have an active
disposition, we invite you to
attempt the quest, or if you have
a more mellow nature, try out
some medieval crafts and games.
Prizes will be granted for the best
costumes so bring your sense of
chivalry and your best royal or
knightly outfit to win.
