Everyone Welcome
Into Focus Photography Club
The January theme for our club photographs
was tattoos. The pictures
will be hanging in the Evergreen
restaurant throughout February. In
the old days, events like the Edinburgh
Tattoo commonly demonstrated
military skills and precision
marching bands. Now they are usually
thought of as body art and are
often associated with body piercings.
Tattoo parlours are almost as numerous
as Tim Hortons drive-thrus.
Keep an eye on the restaurant walls
to see how our members interpreted
the theme.
Our theme for February is
“monochrome.” This could be either
black and white, sepia, or any other
colour. The defining feature of a
monochrome photo is to have different
shades of only one colour. When
you are in the restaurant next month,
look for the ways our members approached
this challenge.
We are a friendly group of amateur
photographers with equipment ranging
from mobile phones and point
and shoot cameras to fancy DSLR
models. We share a common interest
in photography as a hobby and we
learn from each other. At last count
we have 43 members. New members
are always welcome.
If you are interested in joining,
Pickleball
Success of a GWSA Evergreen activity
is no more evident than the
Pickleball Club. Coming up on the
anniversary of just four years, the
membership has grown to 157 members.
That’s about 40 new members
every year. Since its inception four
years ago, there have been 203 people
sign up and pay for a membership
into the club. Unfortunately,
there had to be a cap placed on our
membership due to a consistent attendance
of between 35-40 players
each day.
We are proud to say we are helping
in the growth of the membership
to the GWSA with more than half of
the new members joining the GWSA
for the first time.
In the new year, there was a clinic
in January and an in-house tournament
will take place in the spring. A
very informative video for this new
sport will be released for the website
in the near future.
Shuffleboard
Hi everyone. We hope you all had a
good holiday and are glad to be back
with us. Shuffleboard will continue
on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm. The
fee is $10.00 from now until May 31
or $1.00 per visit. For June and August,
the fee will be $1.00 per visit.
We hope everyone will come and
enjoy the day. Instruction is available.
Silvertones
The Silvertones Choir was formed
over 37 years ago and now boasts
over 50 members. The mixed group
of seniors share the love of singing -
songs old and new. They also love to
entertain with their singing and to
spread cheer.
The choir reconvened after its
Christmas break on Friday, January
5 and began working on a new repertoire
of music for their winter/spring
sing-outs in local seniors’ and retirement
homes and residences.
Songs include Waltzing Matilda,
Ach Du Lieber Augustin, Mary
Anne, Allouette, Cockles and Mussels,
All Through the Night, Loch
Lomond, Greensleeves, La Cucaracha,
Hava Nagila, Shanandoah,
Something to Sing About, Rain and
Go With a Song in Your Heart.
Here is the full list of Sing-Outs
