THE COLLEGE GRADUATION THESIS AS A METHOD OF<br />

BIRD-STUDY<br />

"... The graduation theses are to be based upon original work. Each<br />

student is permitted to select his own subject provided it is relative to<br />

his major course, and is approved by the faculty committee. ..."<br />

Thus are the thesis regulations read yearly to each senior class of Muhlen-<br />

berg College, regulations which bear a striking resemblance to all thesis re-<br />

quirements in all col-<br />

leges.<br />

One student of the<br />

science department of the<br />

class of 1 9 14 found his<br />

subject in short order<br />

without the usual rack-<br />

ing of brains and waste<br />

of time. His decision<br />

was: '<strong>Bird</strong>s of the<br />

Muhlenberg Campus.' It<br />

was a subject that demanded<br />

'original work,'<br />

it was 'relative to his<br />

major course,' it was<br />

speedily 'approved by<br />

the faculty committee,'<br />

not to mention the im-<br />

portant fact that it ap-<br />

pealed to him as a dis-<br />

tinct pleasure, instead<br />

of repelling him as an<br />

uninteresting piece of<br />

work which had to be<br />

done.<br />
