Okains Bay
You need not go far for a holiday by a river, lake, bay, in
open country, or by the sea with plenty of camping spots,
from freedom camping or the basic DOC camps to those
offering more facilities.
CAMPING GROUNDS
Banks Peninsula & Ellesmere:
• Orton Bradley Park, Little River, Akaroa, Okains Bay and
Pigeon Bay – tents, caravans and motorhomes; some have
cabins and powered sites; fees apply.
• Motukarara, Waihora Park Domain – toilets; fees apply.
• Timber Yard Point Lakeside Domain – toilets/showers;
freedom camping.
Selwyn River
• Chamberlains Ford Recreational Reserve – toilets; basic
freedom camping.
• Coes Ford Reserve – toilets; basic freedom camping.
• Glentunnel Holiday Park – full facilities; cabins, powered
non-powered sites; fees apply.
• Whitecliffs Domain – basic camping (tents, caravans and

State Highway 73:

• Lake Pearson (Moana Rua) – basic freedom camping

• Andrews Shelter – accessed via Mount White Road
off SH73; basic freedom camping (tents, caravans and
motorhomes); toilets; inaccessible if heavy snow; no dogs.
• Hawdon Shelter – accessed via Mount White Road
