UNFAIRNESS FUND Those responsible for the Fairness Fund should be embarrassed and ashamed, after much lobbying and many complaints, the roll-out of payments from this fund is now being investigated by the Victorian Ombudsman! We will continue to lobby the Ombudsman to widen the scope of this enquiry to investigate all aspects of not only the Fairness Fund but the biased actions of the TSC. CPVAA continued CLASS ACTION VS UBER BY ROD BARTON President CPVAA The potential Class Action is open to all Taxi/Hire Car operators and Drivers! The VHCA has been busy working with the class actions experts at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in order to do everything we can to help our members (VHCA/ CPVAA members) register for this proposed class action against Uber for operating illegally and damaging the livelihoods of our members. Since the proposed action was announced by Maurice Blackburn amid a flurry of media coverage at our AGM last year, we have helped hundreds of members to register to recover compensation and get the legal action off the ground. In December we held further sessions with Maurice Blackburn Senior Associate Michael Donelly at Embassy, courtesy of the VTHF West Melbourne office, and we have plans to invite the Maurice Blackburn team to several other events and sessions we intend to host early in the coming weeks, to help those members who want extra information before registering. One of the key factors that will determine whether or not the class action against Uber can proceed, will be member interest – and that means registrations.
