CLASS ACTION UBER investigation What is it? Maurice Blackburn Lawyers are investigating a potential class action against Uber on behalf of all taxi drivers, hire car drivers, licence holders and operators who were licensed to operate in the State of Victoria between 1 January 2013 and 31 July 2017. The allegation is that from 2013 until midway through 2017, when new legislation came into effect, Uber was operating unlawfully and that unlawful conduct caused extensive loss and damage to taxi driver and hire car operators and licence holders, who were operating according to Victorian laws. You must register to participate! We can’t stress the importance of this enough! One of the key factors that will determine whether or not the class action against Uber can proceed, will be industry personnel interest – and that means registrations. How much does it cost to be part of the class action? There is no cost, liability or risk associated with signing up. There will be no out-of-pocket money as the investigation and proposed case are being privately funded. What will it cost me if any legal proceedings are not successful? Under the terms of the Funding Agreement, if the case proceeds and is unsuccessful, any costs will be paid by the litigation funder, Harbour. The only contribution you would make being in the event we are successful, in which event amounts would be deducted from the settlement amount for legal costs and the litigation funding commission. Who can register for the proposed Class Action? • All Victorian Taxi Drivers, Taxi Owners, Taxi Operators, Taxi Licence Holders AND • All Victorian Hire Car Drivers, Hire Car Owners, Hire Car Operators, Hire Car Licence Holders who suffered a loss in earnings in the period 1 January 2013 to 31 July 2017. The registration questionnaire will require you to input basic information that enables us to verify some of your personal information such as your losses.
