Company Structures
Another aspect of change is company‘s structures.
Traditional hierarchical structures have also given
way to a more flexible, flat system; horizontal organizations.
In other words, the level of power distance
in companies is fading. The modern organizations
are borderless organizations where networking and
collaborating is more frequent than ever. Organization‘s
are becoming for well-suited for rapid innovation
and the agile response to customer needs.
A common criticism of the modern organization is
that they are unstable. They are dynamic but rely
on constant change to grow. In short, company’s
structures are reflective of modern society. People
are becoming more liberal and power distances are
closing, thus horizontal organizations become more
frequent.
To conclude, the concept of “work” has changed
drastically over the last decade, and work as we
know it today will most likely have changed in the
same manner over the next 50 years. Before the
Internet existed, the idea of someone making a living
from a computer was probably ridiculed. Look at
where we are today, people can work from one country
and have a business in another that sources their
product in a third country. That is kind of amazing.
It is impossible to foresee where “work” will take
us next. All we know is that we adapt, and work will
adapt alongside us.
