THE PRESIDENT
I
remember as a child I often thought
about what my future would look like.
At approximately 5 years old, I wanted
to be the president of Finland. Later on,
towards my early teenage years, I wanted
to make a difference in the world, maybe
even save it. Eventually I got interested in
the business world
and wanted to strive
towards becoming
a CEO of a multinational
company. I
started looking into
business schools
around Europe
and found one in
Jönköping. Thus, I
applied to JIBS and
got accepted.
In this way, the theme of this number,
“Future is now”, hits home quite well for
me. The future I have so long dreamt about
is already happening. Not fully, but quite a
bit of the future I imagined in my childhood
is happening right now. I have new dreams
for the future, but at the same time have
already reached so
much. This is probably
true to many students,
there is quite a lot that
has changed since our
childhood. Maybe the
future is different than
what you might have
thought about 10 years
ago, but hopefully still
something that you
can be proud of.
Now the future I
have been imagining
my childhood is
happening. I might
not be the president
of Finland but made
it to be the president
of JSA. I might not be saving the whole
world but trying my best to work for the
students that elected me for my position. In
some way, I hope I am making a difference.
I am not (yet) the CEO of a company but I
have had the privilege to lead a large student
association (JSA), where I get to take
my studies into practice.
Soon it is time for me
to step down from my
position as President
of JSA. That feels as a
future a little sad and
scary. However, being
involved has given me
so much. It has to be the greatest part of my
work, learning something new every day. I
feel like I am ready to face the new and unknown
and leave the association in the next
President’s capable hands. I hope whoever
it is, has a great time creating the future of
this great association.
