An Independent Bookstore in Nakhon Pratom Starts a New Chapter

คงปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่าความประทับใจแรกเริ่มเมื่อได้มาเยือน
ร้านหนังสือ ‘คำานำา’ คือการได้เดินเข้าไปในตรอกเล็กๆ
ก่อนที่จะพบบ้านไม้แบบไทยหลังใหญ่ตั้งตระหง่านอยู่
ตรงหน้า ซึ่งสิริวัฒน์ กุศลเลิศจริยา หนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้งเองก็กล่าว
ว่าเขาก็รู้สึกเช่นนั้นเหมือนกันเมื่อได้เห็นอาคารหลังนี้เป็นครั้ง
แรก “หลังจากทำางานบริษัท แล้วก็ออกไปปั่นจักรยานอยู่พัก
หนึ่ง ผมเองก็อยากทำาร้านหนังสืออยู่แล้ว ตอนแรกจะไปทำาที่
ขอนแก่นซึ่งเป็นบ้านเกิด แต่พอได้มาเห็นบ้านหลังนี้แล้วชอบมาก
แถมยังใกล้มหาวิทยาลัย และไม่ไกลจากกรุงเทพฯด้วย เพื่อนๆ
มาหาได้ครับ” สิริวัฒน์และภาสรรค์ เชี่ยวจินดากานต์ซึ่งเป็น
หุ้นส่วนจึงตัดสินใจพลิกฟื้นอดีตเรือนหลวงธานินทร์ปฐมรัฐที่
สร้างขึ้นสมัยรัชกาลที่ 6 หลังนี้เป็นร้านหนังสือกึ่งคาเฟ่ที่กลาย
เป็นแหล่งรวมตัวแห่งใหม่ของนครปฐมมาได้ปีกว่าๆแล้ว
นอกจากหนังสือแนวศิลปะ สังคม รวมถึงกวีนิพนธ์และ
วรรณกรรมแปลจากสำานักพิมพ์อิสระที่มีให้เลือกมากกว่าร้าน
หนังสือบางร้านในกรุงเทพฯแล้ว คำานำายังมีกาแฟ ขนมหวาน
รวมถึงอาหารสไตล์โฮมเมดให้ได้มานั่งลิ้มรสไปพร้อมๆกับ
อ่านหนังสือในบรรยากาศสบายๆ ซึ่งทั้งคู่แย้มให้ฟังว่าในเร็วๆ
นี้ อาจมีการเพิ่มเติมส่วนของแกลเลอรี่สำาหรับจัดแสดงผลงาน
ศิลปะเข้ามาด้วย “ที่จริงร้านยังไม่เสร็จนะครับ บางคนมา
อีกครั้งแล้วแปลกใจว่าร้านไม่เหมือนเดิม ซึ่งก็ดีเหมือนกันนะ
เหมือนร้านนี้มีชีวิต” สิริวัฒน์กล่าวอย่างอารมณ์ดี

There is no denying that I was impressed
when I first visited ‘Kumnumm’ bookstore. After
a walk through a tiny alley way, a large wooden
traditional Thai house greets you. One of the
bookstore’s founders, Siriwat Kusollerdchariya,
said he felt the same thing when seeing this
building for the first time, “After working at a
company and then going to bike for a while,
I was already inclined to open a bookstore. At
first I wanted to open one in my hometown of
Khon Kaen, but then I saw this house. I loved it.
It’s also near a university and not far from Bangkok
so it’s easy for friends to drop by.” Siriwat and
his partner Pasan Cheawjindakan decided to
restore the former Tanin Prathomrat Royal House,
which was built during the reign of King Rama VI,
into Nakhon Pathom’s newest bookstore-cum-café.
In additional to books on art, poetry, society
and general literature from independent
publishers (some of which can not even be found
in Bangkok), Kumnumm is also a great place to
have coffee. The café area serves homemade
desserts to enjoy while comfortably reading a
book. There are also plans to add a gallery for
exhibits. “Things aren’t set in place yet, and a
lot of people are surprised when they return and
see that the shop is different. I think this is good,
it’s as if this place is alive,” says Siriwat happily.
