The doctors’ surgeries in Westfield and Sedlescombe have started an initiative called the Patient Involvement Group. This group meets every six weeks and has the aim of working with both surgery staff and patients to develop and improve the service offered. We welcome new members and if you would like to be part of this group, please contact Keith Newman, the Practice Manager on 01424 751609. A Summary of the last meeting held on Tuesday 3rd April The group talked about the following events and topics: 1. A meeting between the GPs and representatives of the P.I.G. had been held to describe the work of the group to the practice doctors. The GPs commented on the high number of patient appointments which were not actually medical in nature - these appointments were made by people needing assistance in contacting other agencies. The PIG group hopes to help people with these type of needs in future. 2. The PIG website and leaflet has been updated. 3. Kevin Katner commented on the results of the recent Patient Survey saying that, overall, he felt that people believed that the surgeries offered an excellent service. Some areas for development were indicated:- People were reluctant to use IT so this issue needed some attention. Only a small proportion of the respondents commented that they did not feel respected or listened to appropriately during their visits to the surgery. Some access problems were raised and people with visual impairment found the booking screens hard to use. There were questions raised about the validity of the survey because of the size of the response and the type of questions asked. Action points will be established at the next meeting. 4. The final draft of a statement of Purpose and Protocols, describing the aims and remit of the group was presented and approved unanimously. 5. Four new people have expressed interest in becoming members of PIG. These people will be first invited to join the virtual group and then meetings with PIG representatives will be arranged over the coming weeks. 6. Information about the PIG and the minutes of meetings is now going to be published in the Westfield Village Website, the “What’s on in Westfield” Facebook, the <strong>WCA</strong> newsletter, the “Sedlescombe Jobs Network” Facebook. 7. On 18 April Kevin gave a brief talk to the Sedlescombe Assembly. 8. Meetings have taken place with 5 of the 7 health practices in our area. Health education was a key topic for discussion. 9. Representatives from the PIG attended the Health Education Forum at the Emmanuel Centre in Battle on 16 May. The next meeting was on Tuesday 15 May at Westfield Surgery. Annual membership is £5.00 payable in January, but we do offer a 'taster session' to see if you like what we do before making this commitment. Then 20p per session which includes tea and biscuits. In addition you are welcome to purchase drinks from the bar. Regular meetings include a raffle with all attending asked to bring a prize to the value of £1.00, Whist and bingo continue to be a popular way to spend an afternoon and we do ask bingo players to bring an additional prize again to the value of £1.00. This year on 9th April we had a mystery lunch, which was a drive out in the Sussex countryside followed by a superb lunch at The Moorings, Pevensey Bay.
