Westfield Cricket Club Spring 2018
D
espite the recent poor weather work has been progressing on the preparation of
the cricket ground for what will be a very busy and challenging season.
As previously reported our 1st X1 will be playing in the new Sussex League
Division 11 and our newly formed 2nd X1 in Division 14 of the same league - this means
that there will be a home game most Saturdays so please come along and support. Both
of our junior sections (All Stars for 5 to 8 year olds and Colts from 9 to 17 year olds) will
be running again in 2018; the Colts started on Monday 23 April from 5 to 6 pm and the All
Stars will be starting on Sunday 20 May from 10 to 11 am.
Personnel: Good luck to our four Colts who will be playing adult cricket for the first time
this season and good luck to all our new signings and returning players. As many of you
will know, David Legg (Leggy) has stepped down as chair person and has been replaced
by me, Ian Taylor; on behalf of WCC I would like to thank Leggy for all of his hard work
over the many years in keeping the cricket club going. I am extremely pleased to say that
he will still be our Head Groundsman and a valuable member of our committee.
Sponsors: Sponsorship is a very important element of any sports club and WCC are
grateful to The New Inn, KN Kitchens and J. Perigoe and Son for their continued
backing.
Westfield School: WCC are proud to continue to work with Westfield School and this
year we are even busier with an after school cricket club running on Wednesday
afternoons and, when the weather improves, we will be running the Friday lunchtime
cricket sessions. In addition to these two programmes we are developing with the school
an inter-school competition which we will host at the cricket ground.
Events: The Quiz Night on 25 March was a big success with much needed funds raised
to support the on-going development of WCC, thanks to Patrick and his team for hosting
the event and to Dan and Min for running the event. CricketFest was a great success for
WCC last year and we will be repeating the event this year on Sunday 8 July; please see
poster on page 36 and watch out for further updates; come along and join in. We hope
that we are blessed with the excellent weather again.
Membership: The annual cost of membership to WCC for 2018 remains at the very
competitive price of £1, please come along and enjoy the fun that is Westfield Cricket
Club.
New Pavilion: This project is getting closer and the required documentation should be
completed by the end of April with the next step being to send out tender documents to
interested parties. WCC is very grateful for all of the support we are receiving from WPC
and the news that WPC has now purchased the cricket ground is a huge bonus so thank
you, Westfield Parish Council.
Nets: The new nets, mentioned in the last report, were due for delivery on 11 April so
another big step forward in the development of players and the club.
Members / Players: As a club that is developing strongly and quickly, we are always
looking to recruit new members and players; if you would like to get involved, either on or
off the field of play, please contact one of officers below or any other committee member
that you may know.
