SOUR BEERS
When I was back in Toronto recently, I noticed
a clear sour beer trend emerging. Every bar and
brewery we visited seemed to have an extensive
selection of sour beers on tap. With a taste just a
bit drier than cider, sour beer comes in a myriad of
flavours and is once again popular in New Zealand.
Brothers Brewery’s recent collaboration with
clothing label Ruby is one to try. The peach beer
was created for the drop of Ruby’s latest collection
and it’s divine. Garage Project’s Wabi Sabi Sour
beer is nothing short of spectacular.
MODERN HONG KONG FARE
Another Toronto favourite was SoSo Club,
which is reminiscent of old-school Hong Kong
restaurants with its stylish pink and turquoise
details. The food is traditional family-style Chinese
cuisine and it definitely holds its own with those
after a hearty, traditional meal. Modernised Hong
Kong fare is trending globally. In New Zealand, Mr
Go’s serves up Wellington’s best baos, The Blue
Breeze Inn is an Auckland standout and we’re
spoilt for choice in Christchurch.
