Everywhere you look there’s chat about current
interior trends. Renovation shows, Pinterest and
Instagram are all prolific with opinions, criticism and
advice. It’s easy to get confused as to whether the
pineapple and palm leaf are sticking around, if rose
gold accessories are on the out, or if the pendant has
replaced the bedside lamp.
Trends are great places to draw inspiration, but we
don’t all need a bedroom that screams scandi-bohocool
or ‘I’ve been to Glastonbury’.
If you suffer from ornithophobia, the current
feathered trend will turn your bedroom into a
nightmare. Same goes for the whimsical all white
room. The whites look beautiful online and in print,
but if you’re going to get tense when Marmite-hands
come scrambling towards the duvet cover, stick to
something more practical. And no, that doesn’t need
to mean boring. You can create the same feel with
rattan and deeper natural colours.
Use trends as a starting point to establish a ‘look’
that’s practical to your own lifestyle and tastes. It’s
often the simplest take on the current trend that
will be the most effective and, more importantly, the
most timeless.
