YOUR OWN SENSE
of style
The new season is upon us and with it comes an excuse to shop! Kiwistyle Northlands’
Natasha Bellamy provides us with a few tips and tricks to create the ideal wardrobe.
What items should we bring out now winter is behind us?
Cropped jeans and trousers, it’s time to get those ankles out!
Anything with stripes will look fresh for spring – lightweight
jackets, military jackets and white blazers are great options. A
handbag in a spring colour and, of course, the sunglasses!
Are there particular pieces that deserve to be updated
every season?
T-shirts, both long and short sleeve, always need a refresh
for the new season, and at the very least a new season pair
of shoes can transform any outfit. A pair of white trainers or
an embellished slide would be good updates.
Do capsule wardrobes work?
Definitely, these essentials that endure seasonal fashion are
the backbone of your wardrobe. Capsule wardrobes can
simplify your everyday outfits, and you can add things around
these items seasonally. A capsule wardrobe could be for a
holiday, for work or just for everyday casual.
What key item should no wardrobe should be without?
You can never have too many pairs of black pants, in my
opinion, in various styles. A pair cropped just at the ankle is a
great option for spring. And another fail-safe item would be
a good quality white tee as they go with everything.
As a stylist, how do you help people get the most out of
their shopping trip?
After discussing lifestyle and budget, we start by learning the
client’s seasonal colours so we know where to shop and
what we should avoid, then by looking at their body shape
we know what styles we should look for. The hard work is
all done by me while the client is in the changing rooms as I
will be running around gathering all the items to try on! We
aim to have several items that can be mixed and matched
easily by the end of the session, along with handy tips on
accessorising for different occasions.
What would make us better shoppers?
Well, firstly coming to see me and finding out your colours
first! This can save you so much time when shopping. And
when you find something that you really must ‘have’, try to
picture yourself wearing it at least three different ways with
the clothes you already own, otherwise walk away. Do try
to find your own sense of style, don’t be dictated to just by
what is currently in fashion.
