We will say this just briefly:
very few establishments have
nailed down the concept of
extent that Trianum has. The
high-quality, fully furnished
resounds in his music. This
modern troubadour was born
in Democratic Republic of the
Congo, but he was raised in
Coventry, in the UK. His songs
are about real experiences
people go through everyday,
touching different genres
including soul and folk. He
Room with a view
Crowne Plaza Opens at JKIA
If you’re a keen observer, you’ll notice that hotels are converging
at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Crowne Plaza has also
thrown its hat into the airport ring by opening a second branch
in Nairobi. It’s for those who want clean sheets, a clean bed,
decent food and a great view. If you get the right room, the
view will be of the runway or Nairobi National Park. Either
way, you win.
Marathon
Run with the Wild
On 6 October, the hills, grasslands and riverbeds within Kenya’s
Lukenya Sanctuary will be home to the annual Kenya Wildlife
Marathon, which allows participants to run through a landscape
packed with zebras, wildebeests and giraffes. Even when on a
short stay in Kenya, partaking in the marathon or half-marathon
is possible: Lukenya is a 1.5 hour drive from Nairobi.
Ghana’s capital city, Accra, is one of the most polluted
cities on Earth. Edward Ayikoe, also known as Eli A
Free, is one of several Ghanaian artists trying to
bring about change.
Why the environment?
There’s plastic everywhere in Accra and it’s getting worse. Still,
there’s a lack of understanding and initiative to turn this around.
It’s not easy: people have other concerns about their well-being,
like how they will get their next meal. We try to change that
mindset with our music.
How do you do that exactly?
By not telling people what to do. We simply suggest a better,
more sustainable way of living. Social issues have always been a
part of Ghanaian music, emphasising that there’s more to life
than fast cars and money. Besides music, I host a podcast and a
creative writing workshop.
How do you see the future?
There’s more awareness now, but we need to take it a step further.
We need a very serious mental revolution.
