THE COTSWOLDS were once the
refuge of royalty. With ancient streets,
rolling hills and cosy pubs, this part of
England is now the perfect rural escape
from The Old Smoke.
FOLLOWING A 90-MINUTE train ride from London Paddington,
and a quick taxi journey through winding country roads, our destination
edges into view. It feels like we’re driving onto the set of a historical period
drama: dinky cottages with manicured gardens abound, while trails of
blush-pink roses creep across doorways. It’s easy to see why the Cotswolds
were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966.
“HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE”
Talk to any Londoner and they’ll have a favourite place here, which is
not surprising given that the capital’s towering skyscrapers can be switched
for sheep grazing over undulating hills and golden-stone cottages >
