12 There was a big turnout for the Volunteer Appreciation Lunch held on September 13. The meal of lasagna and salad, with apple blossoms for dessert, was enjoyed by all. Here several of the volunteers have their picture taken with this lovely harvest backdrop. The GWSA Line Dancing Activity Group participated in the kick-off event for the Guelph Family Health Team’s “Hustle for the Harvest” Fit to Move Activity Challenge on September 21, 2018, in Riverside Park. The activity was similar to the Amazing Race in that teams of four, made up of local businesses, organizations and groups, were competing for the title of Guelph’s Most Active Team over the period of September 21 to October 5. Most of the teams participating were dressed in costume and went from one activity to another. Line Dancing was one of the activities. What fun we had teaching each team how to line dance. If they didn’t do it right, we made them do it over again. We had a thunderstorm at one point but it didn’t stop us from dancing or the participants from competing. We certainly lived up to the GWSA motto “Be Active, Get Involved, Make Friends”. We did all that and more. Thanks to our instructors, Kathy Kemp, Betty Chu, Carol Lightfoot and Patty Liberatore for taking the teams through the dances, and to our dancers who came and danced with us; thank you for making it fun. A big thanks to Gord Clegg for setting up the sound system for us and to Barry Scott for helping him bring it down to the park. Thanks also to Ross Knechtel for taking lots of photos. Here are a few from that day. We would like to thank Haley and Camille of the Guelph Family Health Team for inviting us to participate and we hope to be invited again next year. Hearing Improvement Committee We are meeting as usual on the first Wednesday in the month at 2 pm in the Board Room at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre. Dorothy Scott, who most know as a very important part of our group, is retiring due to failing health. She will be sorely missed by all. We are pleased to know that Royce Brown is taking her place. We hope to listen and be able to provide help to our members and our friends who just drop in. Should you or someone you know have an interest in helping those with hearing loss navigate the journey, we would be grateful. 13 THURS.
