training classes scheduled for November:
Director Symposium Friday 9 November, 6 pm-Peter Thomson will
conduct a director symposium on at the Encore Building. Peter has
directed 14 plays for Encore since 1993. He has also produced
and directed shows for the Canadian Broadcast Company, as well
as UNCTV. The symposium is required for all directors and those
interested in directing Encore Productions and is open to members
and non-members. “The Boys Next Door” will be used as a practical
example for play direction. A copy of “The Boys Next Door” can be
obtained by contacting Al DelGarbino at (252) 340-0721 or email albertdelgarbino@mac.com.
The script can also be purchased at Amazon.com.
should be familiar with the play.
Production Symposium Friday 16 November, 6pm-Phyllis Phillips
will conduct a class on producing at the Encore Building. Phyllis is a
previous business owner, internationally-recognized company branch
manager and an Encore producer. She blends the business smarts
she learned from over thirty years in corporate management with
some show biz sparks she garnered from working with other theater
people. Phyllis has produced entertaining and enlightening Encore
presentations enjoyed by audiences around the community. She is
committed to helping her production crew achieve their highest potential—
while maintaining a sense of fun along the way! The symposium
is required for all producers and those interested in producing Encore
productions and is open to members and non-members.
Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity is
excited to announce the completion of
its latest house at 108 West Broad St. The
public is invited to attend the formal ribbon
cutting and open house on Nov. 17, 10 am.
New homeowners Ricky Norman and Gloria
Saunders will receive the keys to their
new home during this ceremony.
Ricky and Gloria have worked very hard
on their new home along with volunteers
from the community. Neither had painted
a house before but both have now learned
that valuable homeowner skill. They have
also worked alongside volunteer carpenters
to hang doors and molding throughout
the house.
When Elizabeth City HFH acquired this
house, it had been gutted and floors had
been partially removed. McPherson Plumbing
installed the new plumbing and George
and Co. installed the new HVAC unit. The
City of Elizabeth City provided insulation
through its Weatherization Assistance
Program.
Homefix Custom Remodeling from Virginia
installed a new roof after contractor Elton
Sawyer and volunteers made other roofing
repairs. Carpet Connection installed the
flooring and Lowe’s handled our many
hardware needs from windows and doors
to countertops and cabinets.
