want to thank Tradewinds for the hard work to put this paper
I together. I am also thankful for the other writers, advertisers,
and readers. This article is the last of a three-part series on thankfulness
leading up to thanksgiving this year. The first month we
shared about being thankful for our finances even though at times
we may not have enough, last month was about being thankful in
our marriage, this month is our mansion. I ask you last month “Do
you believe that home is where the heart is? As I travel locally
and abroad I see this constant struggle to have an image, to be
somebody. I told someone recently that I don’t think I belong in
this world. I am not sad or disappointed about life I simply see the
world so differently than some. Our homes, vehicles, jobs, possessions
all seem to have a striving connected with them.
There is a word in the Bible called “covet” it simply means to
desire or delight in a precious thing. This can mean something
precious someone else already has or something you want that is
more important than life itself. A few years back I was in Albania
training Church leaders and we took a sightseeing day traveling
as far north in Albania as you could go right along the Montenegro
border. It was getting late and we were thinking about driving
back when a family invited us to stay the night. I had the privilege
to sleep in the upper part of a barn that was in the side of a
hill. No heat, no running water, no indoor bathroom. I slept on a
homemade bed frame with a foam pad covered by a homemade
down cover and pillow. I awoke the next morning with six inches
of snow on the ground. The greatest moment in this experience
was the delight on the family’s face when they gave me their best
....
room to sleep in. You may chuckle at this but as I was going to
sleep that night an old rock song by Lynyrd Skynyrd run through
my head it is called “simple man.” I challenge you this year as we
approach Thanksgiving and Christmas, join me in being thankful
for what we have been given and stop striving for things that bring
at best temporary joy. You may have little or you may have a lot,
you may have a big house or a tiny house. No matter be thankful
for what you do have. I enjoy what Luke writes in the Bible when
he recounts what Jesus said about the daily things we worry
about. “For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek;
but God knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom,
and these things will be added to you.” Luke 12:30-32 I am
thankful for each of you.
Take me by the hand, Lord, take me as I am
Can’t wait til I’m perfection, cause I’ll never make it
Without you in my life, it ain’t much at all
So, take me as I am, for I now come to you
Take me by the hand, away to the promised land
On bended knee, I pray, your Holy name I praise
So, take me by the hand, lead me to the promised land
For now, you live in me, and I believe in you
Lord take me by the hand, for I can’t go alone
Without you it’s not home, So, take me by the hand
Away to the promised land, lets go hand in hand
I can’t wait to see, the wonder that you are,
Miracles you perform, and lives that you have saved
So, take me by the hand, take me as I am
And I will never waver, my faith in you will grow
For in your name I live, and in your name, I go
So, take me by the hand, Lord, take me as I am
With you forever more, I’ll doubt never more
For now, you live in me, and I believe in you
And I believe in you, Lord take me as I am.
