chool reopened for a new
S academic year midweek on
5 September when we greeted
many new faces - twenty-nine
children in our Reception class and two
teachers: Mr Rogers in Year 3 and Miss
Mitchell in Year 5.
The first term has just flown by and we settled into our new routines with the
children enjoying all the fast-paced activities that autumn brings: blustery winds,
conker collecting and harvest celebrations. Our varied topics this term include
Ancient Egyptians, WWII, 1066 Battle of Hastings, Super Human and Blue
Planet plus school trips to Newhaven Fort and Battle Abbey to look forward to.
We were very pleased to be part of the village WW1 commemorations. We
welcomed Kate Darbyshire into all our classes for creative workshops and each
class has produced some amazing artwork for the remembrance exhibitions
including Poppies for the roadside installation, finger paintings, collages and
more. We hope everyone enjoyed the displays and exhibitions over the
remembrance period.
Many of our Key Stage 2 children have been
taking part in swimming lessons, football, and
netball clubs and a few of our quickest runners
from Years 5 & 6 have been selected to
compete in local cross country running
competitions.
As we are now into Term 2, thoughts are
turning to the ever-nearing festive season.
Don’t forget to come to our Christmas Fayre -
see box.
Our Key Stage 1 classes are working on the
annual Nativity play to be performed to
parents and guardians on 4 & 5 December.
Our Reception class children will be putting on their own Christmas tableau
performance at the end of the term. Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a
good carol service and our Years 5 & 6 pupils are tuning their voices for
concerts at Whitegates Retirement Home and Westfield Church in the last few
