From the Vicarage…… ‘Follow The Star’
How quickly the year has passed and here we are again
in the season of Christmas. It’s a time for family,
wonderful food, the giving and receiving of presents and,
of course, lights, especially our amazing lights in
Westfield which draw so many people from far and wide.
The lights guide people to our lovely village and we hope
some will Follow The Star to our historic church.
‘Follow The Star’ is the title of the Church of England’s
initiative to remind people of the Christmas story and
help us to reconnect with it this year. Our Archbishops
Justin Welby and John Sentamu write: “Mary and Joseph
and all those caught up in the Christmas Story were
surprised by the astonishing way God chose to live
among us.” They refer not to a royal palace as you
would expect of the king of kings but in a poor and dirty
stable surrounded by animals.
They continue “Wherever you are this Christmas you are invited to Follow The Star and
to be with Jesus. Each Christmas we are reminded of God’s longing to surprise us with
his gift of joy, love and new life. It’s the greatest present we can receive and share with
others!”
To encourage us to think more about who is at the heart of Christmas, the Church of
England has produced a booklet called ‘Follow the Star’, a journey through the 12 days
of Christmas; copies will be available in church and you are most welcome to take one.
In the busy Christmas schedule, I hope you will have time for rest and reflection and time
to mull over the Christmas story again. Please do come and join us for many of the
varied Services and activities on offer for those of all ages.
This year we continue the tradition of showing a
Family Film, introducing ‘Messy Christmas’, our Tree
Festival on the theme of peace, holding the second
Village Nativity’ as well as the usual Carol Service,
Christingles and Christmas Eve and Day services.
