Westfield Councillor Report:
write this in the days following the recent Budget. Local councils were pleased to
I hear that the siren call for more funding in the most challenging areas of adult social
care, children and roads were addressed in part. This is only a one year settlement and
does NOT bridge the funding gap but it is a clear demonstration that government is
listening and it will make a positive impact on residents of the county.
Our lobbying has been relentless and will continue; I can reassure residents that Amber
Rudd MP is very aware of the significant challenges that lie ahead for both ESCC and
Rother.
On a more local level I was pleased that at Rother we were able to support the parish
council’s application for grant funding of £15000 from Rother towards the installation
of new equipment on the Parish Field. We continue to work with the cricket club in
their aspirations for improvement to their facilities too. I am clear that Rother’s
Community Grants Fund has achieved a lot in assisting parishes to enable projects to
progress and I will ensure that our village continues to get its share by supporting
projects going forward!
Finally, you will recall that last year Rother stepped in and paid for four of the six grass
cuts that ESCC previously funded. This amounted to £42000 across the district and
specifically £1500 for Westfield. Whilst we said that this would be for one year only I
am sympathetic to consideration of the matter for 2019 too. I have asked that an agenda
paper be taken to Rother’s December Cabinet meeting.
