Westfield Community Association Newsletter
No. 166 November 2018
As this newsletter goes to print Westfield is covered in poppies made by people
of all ages; what a splendid display, which also shows the huge amount of talent
around, for Remembrance tide and the Armistice Centenary. This was a
Westfield Parish Council project and a souvenir leaflet accompanies this
newsletter for those who didn’t keep their own record or were too far away to
visit. With thanks to Kate Darbyshire, 1066 Photography, for all her hard work
with the event and supplying the photos, I have produced the four page leaflet
as a keepsake; extra copies are available. Thanks also to Rez of Digital Image
Solutions for his contribution in printing the leaflet, and indeed all the
newsletters.
The door-to-door collection for the annual Poppy Appeal has taken place but if
anyone wishes to donate further to the work of the Royal British Legion, there is
a permanent collection box in The New Inn or contact me.
Within a few days Christmas lights will be putting Westfield on the map once
again. It is unfortunate that due to health and safety, crowd control and traffic
etc. the switch on cannot be an event for the public. A great deal of hard work
goes into preparing the displays which give such pleasure to locals and visitors
throughout December; donations are for St Michael’s Hospice.
Within these pages I hope you will find items of interest and dates to write on
your calendars and diaries. Once again, I thank the volunteers - about 50 of
you - who put this newsletter through your letter box four times a year, in all
weathers. Volunteers play such a large part in our lives but if everyone does a
little bit, it makes it enjoyable for all; perhaps a
New Year resolution for 2019.
If you’ve finished with
this newsletter, please
recycle by taking it to
any of Westfield’s shops
for others to read
Best wishes, Merry Christmas and
a happy, peaceful New Year
