12 HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS WITH THE GWSA Once again, with the help of the many volunteers performing on stage and those working the front of the house, the GWSA brought fun and entertainment to the Guelph community with three successful performances of their annual Variety Show on November 29 and 30, and December 1. Judging from audience response during the shows and their positive comments on leaving the Evergreen following each one, the Variety Show committee co-chaired by the show’s Director, Ann Sneyd, and GWSA President, Dorothy Fair, need to take a well deserved bow. That would include the volunteer decorators, all the members of the tech crew and the House Manager responsible for the Hospitality assistants. Gary Powell in his Red Green comedic persona emceed the shows and kicked off each performance by introducing the GWSA’s own Silvertones Choir under the direction of Ann Sneyd, accompanied by Mary Lynn Woods on piano. The choir sang a selection of seasonal songs and were followed on stage by several additional performances by the following acts: Mary Lynn Woods solo, The Suns of Beaches at their most irreverent, The Sassy Strutters dance group with their smooth choreographed moves, Elvis and his Doo Wop Girls, guest singer Stephen Berryman and his great baritone voice, The New Horizons Band and, of course, Santa and his helpers. What needs to be noted is that this annual event has been brought to the Guelph community consistently each year for several decades through the industrious hard work and talents of the GWSA membership, seniors all! Submitted by Ross Coulter Variety Show DVD: We are planning to sell copies of a professionally-created DVD of the 2018 GWSA Variety Show. The disks will be $10 (total cost). We expect them to be available later in December, hopefully before Christmas. They will be available for purchase at the Front Desk of the Evergreen Centre. In order to give us an idea of the number of copies that we will need, please email your name and phone number along with the number of copies desired to: gwsawebmaster@gmail.com.
