TASTED: BRUNCH AT DREAM
BEACH CLUB
There’s nothing like great big meal to
bring people together. It really is one of
the most rewarding experiences – sitting
down with good friends or family, in no
rush, to enjoy the company and chew
the fat as they say. There is history dating
back thousands of years of feasts being
shared by groups of our ancestors. It’s
essentially part of our DNA by now.
Especially the Egyptians, they loved a
good feast with a huge spread of fresh
and prepared foods, music and other
entertainment, and of course…wine.
Well, guess what? We still love
to indulge just like the Egyptians and
anywhere else in Phuket would be
hard-pressed to host a feast like the
Sunday brunch at Dream Beach Club.
Everything about Dream Beach Club
seems to be elevated to a higher calibre.
First, take a look at their location. They
have a ridiculously exclusive spot on
Layan Beach which is a beautiful stretch
of uncrowded sand bordering a National
Park. Next, it’s a swanky club with comfy
beach chairs and cabanas surrounding a
sprawling pool. It’s all very photogenic
– a selfie enthusiast’s paradise – and
definitely considered an elite place to
see and be seen. Then there are the
entertainers: a one-man-band on acoustic
guitar and piano, killer DJs spinning
the latest house, exotic dancers, conga
players, and more.
How have we made it this far without
talking about the food? There are some
good brunches around Phuket that offer
dozens of different dishes, but Dream
steps it up a notch with 120 options
coming fresh from the pan, oven, and
barbecue from 12-4pm every Sunday.
Obviously they can’t all be mentioned
here but we’re talking imported cured
meats/cheeses/olives, fresh steamed or
barbecued lobster, sushi bar with nagiri,
sashimi, and creative rolls, seafood paella,
fresh-shucked oysters, and the list goes
on and on. To be so bold as to make a
few specific recommendations, the lamb
massaman curry has an extremely rich
and complex sauce perfectly accentuated
by the lamb. The tandoori chicken is
unreal, moist and tender with that strong
smoky flavour inside and out. And the
pastas…it’s just better if you go try it all
for yourself.
The food is phenomenal, both the
quality and variety, but it’s really the
whole package that brings it together. It’s
a feast that’s also a huge pool party with
a rocking sound system. It’s a club – but
it’s on a stunning tropical beach. It would
be a challenge to come up with a better
way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
