any reason. These products are received in
Laredo and refurbished in Sony’s Consumer
Product Center Plant by skilled employees
trained to meet original equipment specifications
with sophisticated diagnostic equipment
and new original Sony parts. These products are
returned to the market through Sony outlet
stores, dealers, and distributors with a warranty
that they will perform as well as one just off the
assembly line.
Sony’s processes are constantly improving,
generating opportunities to advance technologically
in order to maintain competitiveness in the
world market. For instance, Sony transformed
the audio manual winding process to an automatic
one with in-house engineering; implemented
a tape editor machine; used a synthetic
pressure pad in place of one made of wool; made
paint substitutions in the printing machines; created
a closed cabin system for machines; and
installed a new inspection system. In 1998, Sony
introduced the assembly of rechargeable lithium
batteries. These innovations have allowed Sony
to increase machinery and equipment productivity
as well as reduce manufacturing costs and
reach the highest standards in quality.
Personal training and development, continued
innovation, creativity, constant change and
fast action are daily ideas that the Sony family
contributes to its growth and prestige. Sony
considers its employees its most valued asset.
Laredo and Nuevo Laredo were selected for
this Sony plant because they are found at the
center of the American continent. The location
provides all the necessary infrastructures for the
company and is a strategic point of worldwide
distribution through any type of transportation
method required.
Sony has a close and friendly relationship
with local and regional schools and universities,
reflected through a permanent program of professional
practices and residencies by students
and teachers as well as through diverse courses
and seminars. In 1990, in coordination with the
Mexican government, Sony established an adult
education program that has given over 200
employees the opportunity to earn junior high
and high school certification.

community due to its continuous involvement
as a good corporate citizen.
