gather at the Carousel at Riverside Park
every Thursday and sometimes Friday
mornings, from May to September, to
embark on a trip to a nearby river. With
lunch and dry-sac in hand, we spend the
next two to three hours paddling through
some of the most scenic vistas of southern
Ontario. While paddling, two to a
canoe, the group leader helps navigate
the sometimes-turbulent waters. Novices,
always paired with an experienced
canoeist, will spend the summer honing
their skills while discovering the serenity
of canoeing.
With two canoe instructors, a number
of experienced canoeists and a friendly
environment, the canoe club makes everyone
welcome.
New members are required to demonstrate
adequate physical dexterity to enter
and exit a canoe unaided and attend a
four-week pre-trip river canoeing training
program that starts at the beginning
of April. We have canoes, trailers, lifejackets,
and paddles at the ready. If you
are interested, please attend our Meet-N-
Greet on April 4, 2019, 6:30 pm at the
Evergreen Seniors Centre. You must
show proof of membership in the
GWSA to join the canoe club.
“The first river you paddle runs
through the rest of your life. It bubbles
up in pools and eddies to remind you
who you are.”
Craft Group
Winter has come and we are knitting up
a storm. We have been knitting hats for
the homeless and for the schools.
We took a big bag out last Friday and
hope this will help in this bitter cold
weather. Thank you to all the ladies for
doing such a great job. We had a great
month with the sales in our store which
were well over $1,000 in December. All
our money goes to the GWSA coffers!!
We are in need of wool!! I hope you
all will go through your craft stuff and
send us what you do not use. This is the
only way we can sell our lovely handmade
things so cheaply.
Please check out our store - you will
find treasures in there. Thanks to all for
your support.
Hearing Improvement
The Hearing Improvement Committee of
Guelph has the objective of helping fellow
citizens with hearing loss by cooperating
with and assisting professionals
who deal with it; promoting hearing
accessibility within our own community;
holding regular information sessions to
encourage greater understanding of the
problem and what is available to help it.
We meet the first Wednesday of each
month from October through May from
2-3:30 pm. We discuss problems affecting
those with hearing loss and try to
find solutions. Our meetings also have a
social component. For further information,
Into Focus Photography Club
The February theme for our club photographs
was Frames. It is an important
consideration when composing a shot.
Attention shifts to the subject of the picture
when it is “framed” by other components.
Sometimes a door or a window,
sometimes trees in a park. Almost anything
can serve the purpose. You can see
how our members tackled this theme
when you go into the Evergreen Restaurant
this month.
In January, our field trip brought us to
Blown Away in Elora to see glass blowing
in action. In February, we went to
the Wellington Museum to see their collection
of puppets.
Our theme for March is “contrast”.
This could involve putting opposites
together, apples and oranges, babies and
grandparents, or it could be in contrasting
lighting effects.
To see the photos our members take,
go to our photo sharing website at
https://intofocus.smugmug.com/.
We are a friendly group of amateur
photographers with equipment ranging
from mobile phones and point and shoot
cameras to fancy DSLR models. We
share a common interest in photography
as a hobby and we learn from each other.
New members are always welcome.
Our regular meetings are on the last
