interview with<br />
Sinead Donohoe,<br />
Flair Rugs, Head<br />
of Marketing, during the world’s biggest flooring exhibition,<br />
Domotex Hannover, Germany.<br />
Firstly, could you give us some information about yourself<br />
and Flair Rugs?<br />
At Flair we are passionate about rugs, not content to follow<br />
trends, we help shape them. From cutting edge contemporary<br />
rugs to more traditional designs and in many textures, colours<br />
and qualities, we use our experience to blend materials and<br />
design in a way that delivers exciting and inspiring rugs. As a<br />
family run business since the very beginning, our dedicated<br />
team pride themselves on providing a service second to none<br />
and constantly strive to deliver the values the business was<br />
founded on over 30 years ago.<br />
Is there any carpet manufacturer in England?<br />
We don’t manufacture in England ourselves. Our products are<br />
made in Belgium, Turkey, China and India. We import them, we<br />
hold them in England. And we<br />
distribute them to shops around<br />
England and in various Export<br />
markets.<br />
What is relations of English<br />
people with carpet?<br />
In England, it was actually<br />
a bit more common to have<br />
full carpet, wall to wall. Now<br />
increasingly people have wooden<br />
floor, concrete flooring all of<br />
these things are emerging as<br />
new trends in the interiors<br />
industry. We are seeing<br />
particularly increases in a large of sizes rugs which shows to<br />
us the people are wanting a carpeted feel in the room without<br />
wall-to-wall carpet they want to see modern, esthetic, beautiful<br />
floor board beautiful slate floor with it makes something<br />
fabulous on top. So walls are not necessarily as popular as on<br />
the continent, it is becoming much more popular in England<br />
this time goes on. Also in England it’s quite common people to<br />
put a rug on the top of the wall-to-wall carpet. Particularly in<br />
colder areas.<br />
Some of our designs are created in our head office, in England.<br />
Some we are working with are designers in our factory. Some<br />
are making collaboration so for example our Inspired by the<br />
V&A range. We work with huge museum of design we work with<br />
archivist, librarians of things of museum. We select patterns<br />
with them and we work with them to produce the rug. We take<br />
piece of textiles, material, we take design and making the<br />
rug. In terms of inspiration we look everywhere and around<br />
shows like Domotex, we also look at graphics that we see on<br />
wallpapers, curtain fabrics and table cloths anything we see<br />
can be part of inspiration products.<br />
What about your exports?<br />
Obviously Europe is key because they are closest neighbors<br />
regardless of Brexit. We still feel very connected to Europe. We<br />
do a lot in around Europe. We want to expand export area, we<br />
are already very beginning in the UK. We would probably aim<br />
to become stronger in the export market we existing currently<br />
before we tackle America.<br />
What about Domotex Hannover 2019?<br />
Europe represents a fantastic opportunity for us and Domotex<br />
is a key platform. Our ranges have been developed with UK<br />
homes in mind, but the continued globalisation of trends<br />
means there is a good degree of relevance to make many of our<br />
styles just as perfect for homes in the Benelux, Germany, France<br />
and further afield. The strength of British design in rugs such<br />
as Splinter and Blossom helps to differentiate and strengthen<br />
our brand’s appeal yet further and we look forward to beginning<br />
relationships across the region. We present a new look for the<br />
brand at Domotex, with a<br />
clean and contemporary<br />
feel for the stand that<br />
provides the perfect<br />
visual backdrop for<br />
extraordinary rug designs.<br />
