UNMASKING WELLBEING CPD<br />

Trestle is a mask and physical theatre company with a highly regarded arts education programme;<br />

with a mission is to inspire creativity through participation and dialogue they aim to create and<br />

deliver high quality mask and physical theatre performances and workshops locally, nationally<br />

and internationally. Trestle send their high quality, hand-crafted Trestle mask sets and accessible<br />

Trestle bring their highly acclaimed CPD<br />

workshops to <strong>Thurrock</strong>; developed from their<br />

educational work on the Middlesex University<br />

Education MA and PGCE Programmes. This<br />

workshop will cover using mask to explore<br />

identity and emotional wellbeing.<br />

UNMASKING WELLBEING CPD<br />

Drawing on experience from mental health and<br />

wellbeing workshop programmes, working<br />

specifically with young people experiencing<br />

mental health problems, Trestle explore<br />

techniques and exercises that can be used to<br />

open up honest discussion around emotional<br />

wellbeing and supportive behaviour.<br />

Using the medium of theatrical masks and<br />

physical theatre, teachers can explore ways to<br />

tackle discussions on wellbeing in an inclusive<br />

and anonympus manner that easily translates<br />

to the classroom environment.<br />

SUITABILITY<br />

• To be confident in using masks as a tool for<br />

exploring identity and emotional wellbeing<br />

• To use drama to consider non-verbal<br />

communication and explore how we<br />

perceive people<br />

• To consider where we could use the<br />

exercises and techniques taught in our own<br />

context<br />

• Enable engagement with drama in an<br />

accessible way in classrooms<br />

• Provide an introduction to training in mask<br />

or physical theatre<br />

• Increase awareness of issues surrounding<br />

identity, emotion and wellbeing, aiming to<br />

challenge perceptions and provoke debate<br />

Supporting set texts, character exploration,<br />

storytelling, speaking and listening,<br />

presentation and communication skills.<br />

Offering a creative and engaging approach to<br />

exploring issues around relationships, feelings<br />

and emotions, identity and diversity whilst<br />

building confidence and self esteem.<br />

SMSC VALUES & CITIZENSHIP<br />

Helping to develop confidence, explore feelings<br />

and deal with issues such as bullying and body<br />

image.<br />

TEACHER COMMITMENT & TRAINING<br />

We would need each teacher to show an<br />

interest in the subject matter and to be<br />

committed to taking the practice back to<br />

school.<br />

online for use in the classroom.<br />

This workshop is practical, inclusive and can<br />

be adapted to aid creative learning at all levels<br />

and for all abilities.<br />

House Production Park, Purfleet.<br />

DRAMA & THEATRE STUDIES<br />

Linking directly to meet criteria in mask and<br />

physical theatre as well as supporting<br />

modules in devising, improvisation and<br />

practitioner studies.<br />

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END?<br />

Participants will be sent comprehensive notes<br />

on the workshop to support them in taking<br />

their learning back into the classroom.
