English Touring Opera (ETO) is the leading touring opera company in the UK. ETO travels to more<br />
regions and venues than any other English opera company. Their work includes commissioned<br />
opera pieces especially for young people.<br />
ETO’s Education work has been nominated for the Opera Awards <strong><strong>20</strong>19</strong><br />
“Our award-winning education department delivers about 250<br />
workshops and interactive performances each year for nearly 10,000<br />
people of every age and ability.”<br />
ABOUT THE PROJECT<br />
Following the success of past tours, ETO is<br />
touring a new show especially designed for<br />
Key stage 1, early Key Stage 2 and SEND<br />
audiences in <strong>Thurrock</strong> Schools.<br />
The story features 5 performers, including<br />
singers and players, an ingenious set designed<br />
by Kate Lane, interactive songs, sound<br />
technology and comprehensive resources for<br />
teachers.<br />

Mariner and Omar Shahryar, ETO is bringing to<br />
life a brand new opera using interactive<br />
storytelling, electronics and live operatic<br />
performance.<br />
The show will be written in Autumn <strong><strong>20</strong>19</strong> in<br />
collaboration with the National Star College<br />
in Cheltenham where the students will be the<br />
source of ideas – both for music and plot.<br />

Teachers will be required to arrange transport<br />
to and from the theatre.<br />
When he stumbles across the secret to time<br />
travel at the bottom of his pencil case, a young<br />
boy’s life is turned upside-down. As new<br />
worlds appear inside draws, behind the mirror<br />
and underneath the rug, we are taken us on a<br />
strange and beautiful journey through time —<br />
sideways, under, round and back.<br />

Weaving together song, sound, film and light,<br />
we fall into the lives of history’s forgotten<br />
heroes and discover their, songs, stories and<br />
challenges. Through electronics and interactive<br />
storytelling, the audience is placed centre<br />
stage, learning to master time themselves and<br />
inhabiting the characters’ worlds through multi-sensory<br />
experience.<br />
