“I choose to work with Foster Engineering because the result is always excellent.” The Torro Churro kiosk in Auckland’s Sylvia Park mall is the latest bespoke project by Foster Engineering. Owner Rajesh (Raj) Thakkar is thrilled with the finished product, describing the finely engineered steel fabrication as both “beautiful and unique”. Raj has worked with Foster Engineering before, refurbishing nine of his mobile Torro Churro trailers to date. However, a standalone kiosk within an open shopping mall was something new for both Raj and the Foster Engineering team. Apart from a completely new concept, challenges included installation and the long term security of the ‘shop’. “I gave the team an idea of what I wanted. It only took two meetings and they understood exactly what was needed” says Raj. The only item supplied was the deep-frying unit. Foster Engineering designed and made everything else, including bespoke stainlesssteel benches, sinks, storage draws and units, water and waste tanks. Kiosk and contents were created in Foster’s Hamilton workshop, then transported (by Foster Transport) to Sylvia Park for installation. Foster’s also oversaw the fitting of the electrics, plumbing, flooring and signwriting. The project was completed in the six-week timeframe, which included over 300 hours in steel fabrication. “Every detail of this project was carefully considered by the Foster Engineering team. The result is a kiosk that’s not only fit for purpose, it’s an easy working space that everyone can operate” continues Raj. “Our new water and waste tanks are a good example of innovative design. What was the most difficult thing for me and my staff to manage is now a simple matter of emptying and renewal, because they were made to be easily mobile. “I choose to work with Foster Engineering because the result is always excellent.
