Alfas’ World Paella Day<br />

EIGHT groups of people<br />

from several different nationalities<br />

have registered<br />

to take part in a World<br />

Paella Day competition<br />

organised by l’Alfas del Pi<br />

town hall, later this month.<br />

The event, which takes<br />

place on Sunday September<br />

Norwegian Club, The Dutch<br />

Club, the British Companions<br />

collective, the Lions<br />

Club, the Nepalese, Colombian<br />

citizens' collective, the<br />

Romanian Association, and<br />

a collective that integrates<br />

to Arab and South American<br />

citizens, have entered<br />

teams, with more expected<br />

to join over the next week.<br />

explained the competition,<br />

is backed by the<br />

Valencian Regional Government,<br />

“to ensure that paella,<br />

like other well-known international<br />

dishes, such as Pizza,<br />

is declared an Intangible<br />

Heritage of Humanity”.<br />

Each participating group<br />

will be provided with a €30<br />

voucher, to redeem against<br />

the ingredients they choose<br />

for their paella. The competition,<br />

which takes place in<br />

the town’s municipal sports<br />

pavilion, will start at 12.00h,<br />

when the groups begin the<br />

preparation of their dish and<br />

at 14.00h, a jury of experts,<br />

will taste each paella, before<br />

declaring a winner.<br />

Members of the public are<br />

invited to attend the competition,<br />

with a giant paella,<br />

serving 150 people, on offer,<br />

to quell their hunger pangs<br />

and ensure they get a chance<br />

to taste a dish that UNES-<br />

CO, demands be prepared<br />

with "practice, ritual, custom<br />

for the elaboration and<br />

an art for its preparation".<br />

take part in World Paella<br />
