Javea
Fishy trip out
THE guided tours of Javea’s
port and fish market
continue on Wednesdays
learn more about the fishing
culture of the town.
by Simon Russell
The tour takes you through
the landing of the catch and
then onto the fish auction
and the market, showing the
journey from sea to plate.
The one and a half hour
tour costs €5 and is organised
by Trip and Feel with
the approval of the Town
Hall.
Triathlon
challenge
JAVEA’S eighth annual
triathlon takes place this
Sunday, 22 September.
The event starts at 8am
(the early start to avoid the
potential heat) and will see
competitors taking part in
a distance swim, bike race
by Simon Russell
and then run. This is the
third such event to be held in
memory of Edu Monfort, the
son of a former town mayor
who was killed in a cycling
accident in 2017.
Edu was a keen triathlete
and member of the local Javea
club who was a regular
competitor in the event. Him
and two other cyclists were
killed by a drunk driver outside
Oliva, while two others
were very badly injured.
From eyesore
to picnic spot
BENITATXELL Town Hall
have said that they are
planning to transform a site
that has been spoiled by fly
tippers into a picnic area.
The area next to the Les
Fonts urbanisation is currently
full of construction
materials such as old tiles,
by Simon Russell
concrete, bricks and plastic.
The Diputacion de Alicante
have promised a grant of
€20,000 to clear the site and
convert it to a public green
area with a park, benches,
tables as well as a hiking
and bicycle route. The seating
area will be placed under
trees so that it is a shady
area that can be used all
year round.
The project is part of the
town’s long term aim of repurposing
some of the uglier
places in the municipality.
