Scouring the seabed
BENISSA Town Hall and
the Les Bassetes Yacht
Club are planning the latest
“Neteja Submarina i
Litoral” operation for 29
September.
The aim is to clear as much
litter as possible from the
seabed off the Benissa coast,
80% of which is plastics.

These take around 400 years
to bio-degrade in the water
and need regular collections
to avoid an irreversible build
up which would damage local
marine flora and fauna.
This is the 18th such event
and it will start at 10.30am
on 29 September and run
until 1.30pm when the divers
and other participants
will enjoy a much deserved
light lunch.

Babysitter rapist detained
A 38-year-old Kuwait national
and Calpe resident
is in police detention accused
of the rape and
abuse of a woman he
hired as a babysitter and
allegedly raped several
times as well as carrying
out other abuse.
The suspect lives on an
urbanisation in Calpe and
hired the victim, a 29 year
old Moroccan, to look after
his children aged 5 and 8.
However he immediately
started a campaign of abuse,
raping her at least three
times and also beating the
young woman.
At first she was too
scared to report the incidents
but recently fled
the home and was able to

contact the local police.
When they arrived the
suspect was packing his car
to flee the area and possibly
the country.
He had his children with
him and one of the suitcases
was packed with cash.
He is set to appear before
the Denia courts shortly.

blonde beer, the Erdinger
Trigo and the Korbanian
dark beer.
There are special events
throughout including an international
costume night
every half litre of Stiftungsbrau
is €3.50. On Sunday 13
October, the last day of the
festival, all food is reduced
until there is none left!

marathon swim
over the weekend

in concert tomorrow,

Calpe’s Casa de la Cultura.

celebration starts at 8.30,

de Calpe (RCNC) is
hosting the return 3,600 metre
wild water swim to the
Penyal d’Ifach. This is spon-
