Shopping for a little princess is always fun – whether she’s your own or not. But, finding the
perfect baby shower, birthday or Christening gift might sound easier said than done.
We caught up with the Nortier sisters, the brains behind the proudly Pretorian Everli baby
and toddler range.
n a world of individualism, family
heirlooms and traditional hand-medowns
seem to be a thing of the past ...
that something precious that has been
passed on from generation to generation.
For many it is a string of pearls or a
gorgeous Christening gown, but where
to find these items if you do not have any
family treasures of your own?
Thanks to Nina and Sally Nortier, the
sisters behind the Everli Baby brand, you
can start your own traditions or just dress
the little princess in your life in some of
the cutest outfits and accessories we are
yet to see. The dynamic duo saw a gap
in the market, realising the struggle of
many women (and men) trying to find the
perfect baby gift, and created their own
range of the most beautiful, timeless gifts
that will impress even the fussiest mum.
“We wanted to create products that are
not only exquisite, stylish and comfortable,
but designed to last and to be passed
down from one generation to the next.
The quality of our customised products
ensures that they will last; but it is really
the timelessness and daintiness of our
designs that make our clothing the perfect
heirloom to either keep in your child’s
memory box, or to lovingly pass on to the
next generation of children in your family
or friendship circle,” Nina explains.
The sisters from Faerie Glen share a
passion for fashion alongside an adoration
for children and combining their two loves
resulted in the creation of Everli Baby – a
brand that will last forever.
“One day we heard that they were
talking about a little girl called Everli over
the radio and we immediately fell in love
with the name and decided Everli was the
perfect fit – Everli is our ‘foreverli’ brand
name,” Nina explains the name.
The Everli Baby range are made from
cotton and bamboo, making items
long-lasting and eco-friendly. Bamboo’s
thermal regulating nature will keep your
little one comfortable, as it is warm in cool
weather and cool in warm weather; while
the cotton fabrics absorb your baby’s body
moisture easily and will not irritate their
delicate skin. Each item also comes with a
soft touch of lace, are dyed by hand and
packed with a personalised swing tag,
making it the ultimate gift idea.
So where do they get the inspiration for
their gorgeous outfits from?
“The birth of a specific item in our range
often starts with us falling in love with
a piece of lace. From there an outfit is
conceptualised, designed and crafted.
Each item in our range is named after one
of the cherubs we meet along the way.”
Each unique design is handmade by
a quality team of seamstresses and the
collections can be viewed on their online
shop. But we have to warn you. You will
definitely spend much more than you
initially planned to. Prices range from R65
to R520 and include the most exquisite
accessories, rompers and dresses. Even
the wrapping will leave you giddy with
excitement.
But it is not all for babies. Everli Baby now
also has a toddler collection, specifically
made for moms and dads wanting to
keep dressing their little ones in the range.
Many mommies also love dressing their
babies and toddlers in similar outfits and it
does not get cuter than Everli Baby.
Starting up their own business was
anything but easy.
“Deciding to put your dream into action
and giving 100% to make your business a
reality, and then realising that there is no
turning back. It is a leap of faith, but also
the most rewarding part. In the fashion
industry, it is always quite challenging
creating the next season’s collection six
months in advance – you are ‘dying of
heat’ while dreaming up winter designs,”
the sisters say.
Working with family, we can imagine is
quite hard. So what is their secret?
“We are not only family, but best friends.
We have different personalities and
strengths which we capitalise on and
have different roles and responsibilities
within our business. It is important to
switch off some days and spend quality
sister bonding time and not talk about
business,” the duo explains.
And the two really are two peas in
a pod. Both studied BCom Marketing
Management at the University of Pretoria
and spent time abroad after varsity.
At Everli Baby, Nina is the mastermind
behind the business and handle all dayto-day
business activities, while Sally is the
more creative and analytical brain.
Their favourite piece from Everli Baby is
their very first design, the Aurora Romper.
“It showcases our unique Everli design
(bubble-cut knee-length romper), with
a touch of lace (short lace sleeves with
a see-through lace back with scalloped
edges in the middle and ties at the back),”
Sally says.
