It’s a Silver Gilt for
Denehurst Park!
Denehurst Park has scooped a
top award at the biggest and most
prestigious horticultural competition
in the country, North West in Bloom.
The park was entered into the RHS Park
category for the first time this year by
Rochdale in Bloom after the well visited
community park wowed judges last year
on the Rochdale judging route. It’s a fitting
end to a 3-year transformation that has seen
the introduction of new landscape features
including the Monet bridges, as well as the
restoration of the herbaceous garden and the
new play area.
The judges were especially impressed by
the new ecological and sustainability
features of the stumpery, wildflower planting
schemes, wetland swale and fruit orchard.
The involvement of local schools was as a
real highlight of the park’s development with
Meanwood Primary, Caldershaw Primary and
Redwood Secondary schools all taking part
in projects and events.
This year the park also received its second
Green Flag Award. This international award
is the benchmark for parks across the
country and is a testament to the hard work
and dedication of the Friends group, local
community and council. The park’s Green
Flag can be seen flying at the park main
entrance off Edenfield Road.
