South Africa
Located on the southern
tip of Africa, South Africa
is one of the world’s
best kept secrets when
it comes to golfing
destinations. Popular
for Safari trips and the
beautiful Garden Route,
South Africa has also been blessed with
some truly phenomenal championship
venues such as Fancourt and Arabella. It
really is no coincidence that some of the
world’s best golfers originate from the
region!
With five major golfing hotspots; Cape
Town, Durban, Sun City, Johannesburg
and the Garden Route, it’s impossible to
select a favourite. Each region will feature
its own local food and wines, and unique
backdrops – from the mountainous
scenery across the Garden Route to the
bustling city of Durban. Despite some
of the Southern Hemisphere’s best golf
courses, you’d be remiss to visit South
Africa and not spend time exploring.
Whether that’s on safari, a wine tour or
on the luxurious Rovos Rail, make sure
you consider your off-course activities as
part of your trip!
Golfbreaks Top Tip: The exchange rate
between GBP and the South African Rand
is extremely favourable, and when couple
with low costs when on resorts, the
country offers incredible value for British
travellers.
GOLFBREAKS TOP TIP:
The exchange rate between GBP and
the South African Rand is extremely
favourable, and when coupled with low
costs when on resorts, the country offers
incredible value for British travellers.
UAE
With some of the world’s most iconic
golf tournaments taking place in the
UAE each year, Dubai and Abu Dhabi
have become synonymous with quality
golf. Expect a subtropical climate, with
average temperatures ranging from 19.5
degrees in January to a scorching 36.5
degrees in August, meaning the best time
to travel is between November and April
– perfect for an Early Spring getaway!
With the ‘Middle East Swing’ now a firm
fixture of professional golf, why not take
on the likes of Abu Dhabi Golf Club,
Emirates Golf Club or the host of the
DP World Tour Championship, Jumeirah
Golf Estates and compare your scores
against the illustrious list of past winners
including; Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Lee
Westwood.
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, Abu Dhabi
park at Warner Bros Yas Island. Many
travellers also don’t realise that Abu Dhabi
is just an 80-minute drive away.
Mauritius
The accessible island in the middle of the
Indian Ocean is total paradise with some
of the most picturesque golf courses in
the world. With many of the layouts just
under 20 years old, Mauritius has already
established itself on the world’s golfing
stage with the European Tour already
visiting annually.
The island boasts stunning views with
turquoise seas and bright white sands
bordering many of the island’s emerald
green fairways. There’s also a wide variety
of courses to choose from, suiting golfers
of all ability with most featuring hotels
on-site, ensuring minimal steps from the
pool to the first tee.
GOLFBREAKS TOP TIP:
Take advantage of the low-season rates
between May and September, with slightly
cooler temperatures of between 22-25
degrees the norm, it’s perfect golfing
weather!
