Out and about Holiday gift giving
Holidays are a great time to build
traditions. When I was a child, we would
visit a place called Edaville Railroad. Ellis
D. Atwood gave this historic amusement
park its name, his initials (E.D.A). He
started this railroad by purchasing most of
the surviving equipment from Maine’s once
expansive network of two-foot gauge rail’s
and had them trucked south to Carver,
Massachusetts for the cranberry bogs,
then a trip to our famous rocks Plymouth
rock and digestion and Indian head rock.
But here is California, you can start new
traditions.
Next is one of my favorites, as a child I used
to hike the New England woods in search
of the lady slipper flower. It was a rare and
beautiful flower but I did not know it was a
an orchid! A wild indigenous Orchid!
The Gubler family Orchid. Originally in
Switzerland, Gubler Orchids was opened in
1918 by Heir Gubler. It was his second son,
Hans, who moved to California to chase
the American dream and in 1954 started
Gubler Orchids (US) selling the orchids
literally from his station wagon. Open:

to see your favorite, Gubler Orchids has

festival was celebrate the orchid harvest and
to attract out-of-town visitors.
Must have non-slip, closed toed shoes to
take a greenhouse tour. No sandals.
