Another Year Attained!By: Mary Richard / Health FitnessWOW! January 1 st and another new yearalready! Where did 2019 go? I turneda magic 75 years young last month and loveit! I have great friends, family, a home,wonderful jobs, health and two beautifulfur babies.I’m on to new goals this year. I don’tmake resolutions – just new goals. Onething that I did in 2019 was to put anempty jar on my kitchen counter, put happythoughts or events into the jar and then inJanuary 2020 – take out all the happinessthat has transpired throughout the yearand read them.Did you gain a few pounds in 2019? Don’tstress about it. Just take it easy. It’s better tolose a few pounds slowly than to crash diet.Try to enjoy goodies if you must – butin moderation. I try not to deny myself of any of the wonderful sweets,chocolates, etc. I even indulge in a holiday drink or so.I found one secret to keeping your alcohol in moderation is to havea sip of water every so often when drinking wine or cocktail. It surehelps! I also try to nibble on some veggies before venturing out to aparty. Then I am not so famished when I get there and eat more thanI intended!Life is shorter than we think! Make 2020 a year to reflect on what wedid in 2019. Set some goals (not resolutions!) to try to attain what youdidn’t do last year.Make a conscious effort to exercise more, try to lose those addedpounds that suddenly appeared around the middle, eat healthier, enjoyyour friends and make new friends. To help you fulfill these resolutions, a few helpful hints.Losing Weight: Obviously a healthy diet and exercise are paramounthere. You should strive to lose about a pound a week.Experts believe that weight loss at a rate faster than this may bedeleterious to the body. Tea leaves (the plant Camellia sinensis)are used to help treat obesity, type II diabetes, high cholesterol andcardiovascular disease.Studies have shown that the herb decrease the body’s ability to makelipids (fat) and also decrease absorption of fat in the gut. It also helpslower blood sugar, insulin concentrations and triglycerides. Drinkingtea may help your weight loss goals.Decreasing stress and anxiety: When most people think ofstress, what they are referring to is the nervous system in a state offight or flight. Where drugs such as Xanax are given for such problems,meditation and yoga are ways to slow the body down and transitionfrom a state of fight or flight to one of relaxation and being centered.Eating healthier: Do you know how you may crave certainunhealthy foods? It may not be you that is actually craving them.You have billions of bacteria that live in your body; a large proportionliving in your intestines. Most of these bacteria are beneficial. Some,however, may not be.These non-beneficial bacteria also have dietary needs which may becontrary to your health. By releasing certain chemicals which affect thenervous system, these bacteria can make you feel good by eating foodthat nourishes them but actually harms you.The best way to kill these bacteria is to eat a good clean diet for a fewweeks. This causes these bacteria to die off due to lack of nourishment.Resolving Pain: Acupuncture and been used for thousands of yearsto treat pain and the underlying cause of pain.
